Settlement

During the later period of Japanese colonization , Taiwan was taken as the base to enter the south. In 1937, due to the expansion of the airport scale and the increase of the living demand of officers and soldiers, the Chong-lan military officers` Residence was expanded, known as Sheng-li New Village nowaday.

Changes for Residences

After World War II , the village was briefly transferred to the US Army to live in, and was transferred to the army Training Headquarters of the General`s School in 1947 .The residents were mainly high-leveled generals and colonels.

In 1972, because the single-service housing regulations had been terminated , the restriction for the villages was in progress as well , The military personnel were redeployed official houses according their posts after the regulations for village reforms were passed. and the villages were no longer distributed or released.

Replanning

Pingtung county government plans to renovate the New Village and hold a number of activities to promote the culture of the village.

The Sheng-li New Village originated Its at the end of World War II when the national government planned to combine it with the Chong-lan army officers' residence . That is why so many generals used to live in the general's house. On November 28, 2009, the museum was inaugurated and established as the "Cultural Museum for Military Dependents` village". The cultural relics are mainly about the background of Japanese colonial rule and the migration of the post-war national government. It demonstrates military items of the armies and regiments, such as military supply or commodities. The museum have made great contributions to the cultural preservation of the military dependents` village.

In 2007, Pingtung county government registered it as a historical building category, during which a total of 70 japanese-styled wooden dormitories built from 1928 to 1951 were retained. These houses are unique in peculiar appearance , each one has a courtyard. The flowers and trees are tall and flourishing.The residences were once houses for Air Force Officers , dormitories for armies after World War II. ,and now it has turned into the the arts and cultural park, which is a great example of how the government preserves and facilitates it .

The ministry of national defense has selected Sheng-li New Village as the preservation area , taking it as the starting point. The four purposes for planning are life experience, food preservation, artists' entry and cultural and creative industry . The principles are to maintain the space and to create business opportunities, to activate the space to show diversified development appearance.
