The Washington Naval Treaty

In 1927, restricted by the Washington Naval Treaty and other various factors, the army flight 8th wing was transferred from Fukuoka airfield, kyushu, Japan to Pingtung airfield to replace the police aircrew.

Officially launched on February 19th, 1928, the eighth flight wing of the army was not only the first permanent military aviation unit in Taiwan's history, but responsible for guarding Japan's southern airspace, and dominated all major aviation activities in Taiwan.

The Wu-She Incident

After the outbreak of Wu-She incident on October 27, 1930, the 8th wing sent four planes to the site for large-scaled aerial reconnaissance and bombing.

Beginning in 1936, Japan expanded the Pingtung airfield into the largest airport in Taiwan at that time. The 8th flight regiment of the Pingtung army was expanded into the 3rd flight regiment of the army. At the end of the year, Japan formally withdrew from the treaty.
