Activity Introduction:
It rained several days and temperature dropped abruptly in Taiwan. Follow the call of Hongdao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation, dream builders celebrated the 84th birthday for an old Korean grandma who lives alone. The grandma lives by herself in Taiwan, because of language difference, she seldom goes out. With this great opportunity, we shared stories about grandrider spirits with her, encouraged her to go outside more, to walk and to enjoy beauty of Taiwan. We helped her to realize her ability to pursue dreams as an old people. We learned some Korean ahead, made her a card in Korean, sang “Happy Birthday” in Korea to her and gave her a pair of cold proof gloves as birthday present. Although our Korean pronunciation was not so good, our sincerity warmed her totally.
Experiences:
We prepared many activities to celebrate the 84th birthday for the old grandma. Our magic “Dream Becomes True” made her very happy. It was a joyful and meaningful day. Our enthusiasm moved her deeply, before we left, she told us to visit her often. She said that grandriders of Taiwan were amazing. The more we learned about her, the more we found that she was easy to be satisfied. Actually, many communications do not require language.
Activity Introduction:
Each Saturday from January 17th to February 14th in 2015, dream builders went to Residents Activity Center in Nangang District of Taipei, told old people stories about grandrider spirits. In this way, local older people were encouraged, they confidently realized their ability to create and pursue dreams, changed their rigid self-expressions and believed that being old did not mean being useless. We also designed some plans, performed for local old people, showed them innovative creations and taught them healthy exercises, it was good for their health and memory, their life became richer, instead of watching TV alone at home, they enjoyed happiness and joy in our service on each Saturday.
Experience:
The old people participated in various activities actively, such as guessing riddle, singing, dancing, exercising, handcrafting and etc. In fact, old people know a lot of things and are so kind to us. They are passionate about competition and excitement, each smiling face shows childlike innocence. They ask not much, only company, and that is all. The activity left me precious memories, I felt very lucky to get the opportunity.
Activity Introduction:
In such cold winter afternoon, while in Taizhong City Vitalon Fund Hall there is a warm sharing session.
Volunteers from cities of the county and dream-elders gathering here are to participate in the “2014 never old dream & filial piety volunteer sharing session". The main purpose is to invite elders who have participated in this year’s “never old dream” and through the sharing session to share changes and moving little stories of participation in Dream Activity, at the same time to take this opportunity to commend enthusiasm of volunteers of their enthusiasm in elder service. Sharing session in the day includes share of “never old dream” and “filial piety strength”. We invited Grandpa Qiu Shujia, who was warmly welcomed in this year’s Xianjiao Broadway-Youth Radio performances to the site to share and give a live performance of walking on stilts.
Grandpa began to learn stilts at the age of 70, which shows the spirit of “live and learn”. Grandpa is 80 years old now and still actively participate in on-street performances around the country. In the sharing session day he incarnate as tall version of Santa Claus. The part that he wears Christmas costume to walk on stilts makes continues cheers.
Activity comments:
With aging population more and more serious, these old people still maintain their interest. Their appearances are seventy or eighty years old, but they are just like 18-year-old, in the age they enthusiastic about things they like. They would not lost aspirations because of old age. They bravely chase dreams, cherish every minute, every second, enjoy life, complete dreams, and seize every moment of their own arena. They live ordinary life, but much wonderful than others. These are we young people need to learn.
