School promotion

 

Teacher Cheng-chieh Chang had a wrap-up presentation for associations in school. As an old association, Cyberfair Project Club of course could not be absent. In this way, we were able to show to more people every detail about our activities during the semester. We could also advocate our Cyberfair project - The Sewing Workshops in Alleys. We were very happy to get this information as we had the opportunity to present our study results.

 

1. Preparations

 

To make the event smoother, we made several preparations:
1) Colleting materials: we collected materials about sewing workshops. We organized the materials and decided what topics to advocate.
2) Sewing experience: we learned sewing skills and had real practice. Once we understood the production process, we could make it more clearly on the stage.
3) Making billboards about dissembling uniform: we took the clothes apart into different parts, so the students could see more clearly.
4) Class promotion: to make the presentation more successful, we went into the classroom to promote after practice. We not only promoted our Cyberfair project, but also enhanced our public speaking ability.

2. Activity process

The products showed on the day of activity included the poster for class promotion and the rabbit toys we sewed during sewing classes. We also borrowed a sewing machine and move it up to the fifth floor. It was the most eye-catching thing at the event. We made introductions and presentations in separate groups. As the way of grouping and the topics were quite similar to the class promotion, it was an easy job for us since we had practice many times for the class promotion.

   
The head would ask questions every time he finished speech. The students were very active in answering those questions (there were candies).

 

In this process, we presented puppets and the sewing and composition. Look! The students were listening very attentively.

 

This process was very interesting and aroused the curiosity of many students. We used the school uniform as the model and the head explained the different parts of clothes by this uniform.

 

Here, we introduced sewing machine, which was used in sewing workshops to sew clothes. Most of student s had never seen this before so they were intrigued. However, we prepared many things and had not enough members, so the teacher had to help us here.

3. Afterthoughts

Po-ta Chen

After so many preparations, we finally had to public the results. I teamed up with Ya-guan Wang and introduced how to make rabbit puppet. At first I jammed a little bit, but then I knew how to handle it. I was happy that I did not forget the words. My voice was too low, but I found myself to be braver after this experience and did not jam not like before. During the prize game, everyone wanted to have candies. It was funny. It also showed that they were listening carefully to what we said. I wish we could do better next time.

Yi-ping Liu

I jammed during practice. Maybe because I did not recite it well. After I repeated for some times, I became better at it. I prepared early on the day of event. We prepared sewing machine, cotton threads, rabbit puppets and billboards that introduced garment factory. We had to make explanations when people gathered around. There was a prize game, but it was awkward when there were no people.

Jin-yu Chen

I went to the Lu Jiang Building to promote our association. I had to prepare not only introduction words but also the questions for prize game. I thought it would be easy. As it turned out, the difficulty had just started. As I had a sore throat, Bao-le Chen spoke most of the time. His friends came for him during his speech. The introduction was interrupted. When there were no people, he went to other groups for candies. I pulled him back. I thought once you had participated, you got do it well. Otherwise you would leave a bad impression on others.

Chi-yuan Huang

Many people came to listen to our introduction during the activity. I knew some of them and felt nervous, but it went well. We did not have many people compared with others. I did not know whether it was because our contents were too dull. If so, we should have made the introduction more interesting to appeal to the audience.

Ya-guan Wang

We prepared a long time for this presentation. Besides class promotion, we also had to take the clothes apart and let the students see the components of clothes. We stayed the night before the event to make preparations. I was responsible for introducing the components of rabbit puppet and how to make it. Po-ta Chen and I had a nice discussion, with only a little different opinions. We solved them out quickly. My mouth was very dry that day as I spoke a lot. As I saw the curious eyes of kids from grade 1 or grade 2, I felt very happy. Maybe I thought I was great. Ha-ha. Through this experience, I had more courage to speak in front of people. As I had prepared the material earlier, so I was familiar with what I was to say. This was a great experience.

An-peng Wu

Through this presentation, I not only knew more about sewing workshops, but also became braver. The kids from grade 1, 2 and 3 liked the prize game very much as there were candies. The crowed at the billboards. At that time I felt a sense of accomplishment, but it became embarrassing when the crowd left. It was so quiet and we did not know what to do. This made me realize that it was hard to pitch. You needed support from many people.

Bao-le Chen

 

We had rehearsed, so the avocation went well. I teamed up with Jin-yu Chen and what we advocated as the picture about dissembling the school uniform. There were collar, front, back, pockets, sleeves and cuffs. After the introduction, there was a prize game. This event took us a lot of time. We were glad that many people came to our booth that day, which made me feel our work was not in vain. The dissembling of school uniform intrigued many students. Maybe they had never seen a uniform take apart like this. So I think our preparation was a success.

Xin Ouyang

 

We dissembled the uniform of Lu Jiang Elementary School for the association presentation. So the students would know more about the compositions of the clothes. I came to know how violent I could be during the process. Ha-ha. Yi-ping Liu and I chose a “natural” way. We decided not to recite the script and play to the score. It turned out to be quite successful. We had to make it fun to attract people. Ya-guan Wang and Po-ta Chen had to introduce how to make rabbit toys. Their introduction was detailed and organized. I admire them for that.

Ting-yu Li

We had to take the clothes apart in order to make people know the different components of clothes during the result presentation. Everyone prepared his words. I felt a little nervous and embarrassed. I forgot some of the words. Since we had practiced many times so it was not so bad. Through the practice, I was no loner that nervous. This is another gain of participating in the Cyberfair project.

Ya-ting Tsao

 

We would gather for discussion before an event. During the preparation, there were incidents, which were very funny and worth remembering. This was anther joy of participating Cyberfair project. Our relationships became better. When it comes to activity, I think it first have to be interesting so people will join in. second, it should be too hard. Otherwise, the student may not understand it and it will be boring. Then they will no longer listen. When faced with little kids from lower grades, An-peng Wu and I tried to make the contents easier for them. Even the questions for prize game were easier. Many people answered in return.
