Radio broadcasting

We wish that through the radio drama more people will come to know the sewing workshops in the alleys. We thought posters were not enough for promotion. During the noon break, there will be student broadcasters. If our Cyberfair project can be live broadcasted with campus activities and social new, the propaganda effect would be better. It will be more eye-catching.

1. Decide broadcasting date: we first decided broadcasting date with Teacher Cheng-chieh Chang.

2. Discuss and compile broadcasting contents

As we had never broadcasted at school, we asked the teacher for help. We came up with several key points and compiled the script based on these key points.

  1. 1) The length of broadcasting is limited to 5-10 minutes.

2) The contents included the introduction of our topic, what is sewing workshop, the past of sewing workshops and the status quo of sewing workshops.

3) To not make the contents too dull or too lengthy, the contents has to be concise and interesting.

3. Choose broadcasters

None of us had any experience in broadcasting. We agreed that to achieve best effect, the broadcaster should meet following requirements:

1) Clear pronunciation.
2) Moderate speed.
3) Fluctuating intonation.

Someone suggested that we could take turns, but most people thought it would be okay to choose someone suitable. An-peng Wu and Ya-ting Tsao then volunteered to take up the role. After we listened to their test broadcasting, we decide that it would be a nice idea.

4. Off we go.

After some practice, we rehearsed it to the teacher. We had to prepare at the Office of Students’ Affairs. With the help of Teacher Cheng-chieh Chang and Teacher Guan-you Guo, we had a successful broadcasting.

5. Afterthoughts

1

Po-ta Chen

I was in charge of the script outline! It was in three languages, namely Chinese, English and Japanese. It was about a woman whose clothes were broken. He wanted to throw the clothes away but was stopped by another woman. She introduced her to the sewing workshop for repair. Then we came up the introduction of sewing workshops. Ya-ting Tsao and An-peng Wu were the broadcasters of this time. I thought they were like reading, instead of acting. They were still great.

At first, we had to decide whom to be the broadcasters. As Ya-ting Tsao and An-peng Wu volunteered, we spared some time. Then we had to come up with the script. The beginning part was easy and was in charge of that. The middle part, which was the introduction of sewing workshops, became difficult. Then we asked Ya-ting Tsao and An-peng Wu to practice. We waited for the noon when our drama would be on air. The first part was clear, but I could hardly hear the middle part as it was noisy in our classroom. What a disappointment. I would also like to give it a shot if we were to do it for another time. I was afraid to be embarrassed, so I did not dare to do so.

During the noon break today, An-peng Wu and Ya-ting Tsao started to broadcast the radio drama Voice of Lu Jiang. We came up with the script together. An-peng Wu and Ya-ting Tsao then broadcasted it. They were from the grade 5. They did not use their original voice in the broadcasting so it was weird to listen to. I thought their original voice would be better.

Chi-yuan Huang

This radio drama combined Chinese, English, Taiwanese and Japanese. This made it more interesting. However, my classroom was busy chatting and they did not listen too much of it. There were less than 10 people who listened. The broadcasters were very devoted, but just a few people listened.

Ya-guan Wang

We followed Po-ta Chen’s suggestion and continued to think. Ya-ting Tsao acted Ting-ting and An-peng Wu acted An-an. The contents were about broken clothes that were taken into sewing workshops. On the Monday noon, I listened carefully to the broadcasting of Ting-ting and An-an. I thought Ting-ting’s voice was too small and An-an voice was unstable, but the contents were presented well.

6

An-peng Wu

This broadcasting experience made me know about the hardships and nervousness of broadcasters. We ought be relaxed and not be nervous. Otherwise the voice would tremble. I was sweating during the broadcasting. After it was over, I felt very happy. I wish people would have listened carefully to what I said.

Bao-le Chen

Wednesday afternoon, we discussed in the computer room about the radio drama to be broadcasted on next Monday noon. To make it funnier we added some jokes and used Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese and English. It was not easy to think of a script, especially when we had to make people clear of the key points of our Cyberfair project in a short period of time. I learned that to compile a script you had to decide which topics to be included first. Then stories then could develop based on these topics. This was a big gain.

To make people understand sewing workshops better, we decided to broadcast Voice of Lu Jiang during the noon. We had to decide on the broadcaster and then the scrip. Some people suggested it should be funny. So we added something that was not in Chinese. After some practice, they became very good at it. Few of my classmates listened. They were making noises in the classroom. We worked hard to prepare for this broadcasting but few listened. It was difficult to get them interested in and know about the topic of this Cyberfair project.

Ting-yu Li

As it was Wednesday, I left earlier and did not join the discussion of the contents of Voice of Lu Jiang. I heard it in Voice of Lu Jiang. The Cyberfair project broadcasting was very interesting, but I found many people did not even listen. It seemed that we did not achieve the promotion effect we wanted.

10

Ya-ting Tsao

In order to promote Cyberfair project, I went to the Office of Students’ Affairs and said that we wanted to do our promotion on the Voice of Lu Jiang. The teacher was very nice and said yes. But when I had to really do the broadcasting, I felt nervous, especially when I spoke out the first sentence, but then I became better at it and my voice became more natural, just like normal. After the show was done, both An-peng Wu and I felt relieved. I wish that people were satisfied with our program. This was a nervous and interesting experience to me. If I had a second chance I would still go for it.
