Poster making

The school hall way is a place that the students must go by when they come to school and leave school, therefore, it is the most suitable place for advocating, the teacher said there were billboards and televisions, so we had to decide whether to use real posters, or electronic posters, we voted after discussion and everyone agreed to electronic posters. Electronic poster can be made processed by computer. In it is not only more exquisite, but also saves time. It can even be printed to produce paper poster. It has many advantages.

Making posters

1. discuss the contents
Po-ta Chen was the host, and Ya-guan Wang was responsible for recording. All the students joined in the discussion. Based on the material we collected and the teacher’s explanation, we finally came up with 7 topics, which were as following:

  1. 1) The past glory of garment industry.
  2. 2) The status quo of garment industry.
  3. 3) The future of garment industry.
  4. 4) Why we choose this topic?
  5. 5) What are sewing workshops?
  6. 6) What is garment industry?
  7. 7) What is garment OEM?

Po-ta Chen and Ya-guan Wang held the discussion

2. Learn to use paint software
After the poster contents were organized, the teacher taught us to make posters through the use of Photocap. We had to first determine the topic of poster and then make background and subjects. We had to combine the backgrounds with subjects, and then type in the introduction or instruction. Then the poster was finished.

3. Printing and pasting
After the electronic poster was made, we separated into two groups and went to promote. One group used Power Director and made the electronic poster into a document. They broadcasted it on the TV in the school hallway. The other group borrowed a printer from the Office of Teaching Affairs and printed the poster. They pasted the poster in the hallway so the students could see the introduction of sewing workshops when they come to or leave school.

4. Afterthoughts

1

Po-ta Chen

The teacher asked us whether to use the original poster paper to paint or to use computer. I chose computer as I wanted to make posters by Photocap, which I had learned in grade 5 and was familiar with. I could only remember a little. So the teacher explained about it once more, but I didn’t really understand it. Our topic was “what is the garment industry?" I thought over and found that it was involved in the other topics as well. So I put garment OEM, sewing workshops and garment industry together to introduce my topic.

Yi-ping Liu

Today we are going to make advocating posters with Photocap. Although I had done it before, I had forgotten a little bit. I was worried I might not do it well, so I worked with Ouyang. My topic was the past glory of garment industry as I had advocated this topic before. So it would be easy to me. We spent a lot of time and effort when choosing and adjusting pictures. We finally completed the poster. It was good in general. We made a little bit adjustment later to make it look better.

Jin-yu Chen

It was easier said than done when it come to using computer to make posters. I was very bad at computers. Although I had learnt it in class and the teacher also explained once more, I still was not able to do some parts and had to ask the teacher.

Ya-guan Wang

My poster topic was “Why we choose this topic?” Although we had leant Photocap in class, I still could hardly use it and kept asking Po-ta Chen. I found it was not easy to use computer to make posters, as I was very bad at computers. It was still better than to draw by hand, which I was even worse at.

An-peng Wu

We listened to the teacher’s explanation and used Photocap to draw poster. Our topic was “the status quo of garment industry”. We were curious about it. That was probably due to the fact that we had read too many relevant books recently.

Bao-le Chen

We drew the poster through Photocap and put the advocating poster on the TV of Lu Jiang Building for people to look at. I thought it was a great idea to put it in the hallway, as may people would wait here and they would watch what was on TV when they waited. In this way, we were able to get our message across, but I found it difficult to make poster by Photocap. Although I had learnt it in grade 5, but since I was bad at computer and seldom used Photocap, I still needed the teacher’s help.

Xin Ouyang

I used to make a poster for sports meeting and won an award, but now I had forgotten how to use it. The teacher explained to us once more. We used the essence of the published article and interview pictures. We made a perfect poster through cooperation. I felt accomplished. I never thought when added with background and words, these pictures could be made into such a beautiful poster. This changed my previous view that hand-drawn posters must be more perfect than electronic ones. I might use computer more when I have to make posters in the future, but I have to work on my computer skills. Taking part in Cyberfair project can also make me more computer-literate.

Ting-yu Li

My topic was “the future of garment industry”. I chose a picture shot in an earlier activity. Though the teacher had taught us before how to use Photocap, I had forgotten about it. I thought it would be easier than to draw by hand. I found a lot of things that I didn’t know how to do.

I was late as I had to go to the English reader’s theater. When I arrived at the computer room, their posters had almost been finished, but had not yet started. What was worse, I was a computer idiot. (I would not lose if we were to play computer games.) I thought we would draw the poster by hand, but everybody chose to use Photocap. Although I have been listening in the class, but I had a short memory that did not remember things. I prefer posters that are drawn by hand. As you can just paint and don’t have to know how to operate the computer and which buttons to press. The computer makes painting more complex. Painting is an easy thing in itself.
