The
methods and extend of an ancient house tells a lot about
the developed of the region. According to our survey,
most of the ancient houses were built along the river,
which proves how important Plum Tree Creek was to the
residents.

1.Chang’s
house at Xiao Ping Ding
|
According
to the chef of the village, Chang’s house has built
200 years ago. It’s the oldest house at Xiao Ping Ding
now. There wasn’t any high ways when they built the
house. It took a lot of money to pick up red bricks from
Damsui. This shows that Changs had deep pocket and big
influence at that time.

Huang’s
house at Shu Mei Keng
|
The
house is over 100 years old. Built as quadrangle house
with Andesite, which is rare in Zhuwei. It’s the
oldest stone construction at Shu Mei Keng for now.
Huangs named the house as Zhi-Yun.

3.Kao’s
house at Shu Mei Keng
|
The
house was built by Kao’s posterity eighty years ago
during Japanese colonial period. It was built as train
structure mainly with bricks. It is conserved very well
till now.

Kao’s
house in the tiles

This
is the oldest mansion at Zhuwei. It’s a central
building with two wings attached perpendicular to either
side. The external wall were build as brick baffle when
inner wall by cob. This kind of building methods was
very old and the house is more than 200 years old. So
after years without maintenance, it’s out of repair. |

Zheng’s
house at the estuary
|
Distance
to the estuary around 300 meters. Zheng’s house is a
brick-built San-He-Yuan named He-Pu. It’s over 100
years old. The house used to lend out for drama shooting
which leads to loss of some antique. |

6.Tsai’s
house at Quadrangular-Zhuwei
|
Quadrangular-Zhuwei
was the population center of Zhuwei in the past. Zhu is
the sound of Bamboo in Chinese. Wei means surround.
People planted bamboos around their house. This is the
origin of the name. The oldest house here belongs to
Tsais. Named Ji-Yang. Remaining only a wall while their
another house named Xin Yuan Jv is preserving better.
Xin Yuan Jv is surrounded by building now. It’s a
strong comparison. You can observe the development of
Zhuwei easily by this. |
