(1) Origin of Holy Mountain

At the start of the sky and earth, a god and goddess came from the heaven, landing on a rock of the highest mountain. Suddenly, the big rock splited to two parts, one becoming the nature and the other a palace that was named as “Benubung” (the land of ancestors) by two gods and became their residental place, enabling them to multiply (Liao, Shouchen(1984), Atayal Culture: Tribe Migration and Development: 26-27).
        Currently, the big rock is located in a mountain named Pusu Btunux (cradle of ancestor) in Silin Village, the upper river of Zhiya dry brook and Qingshui River, which is called as Guanyin Mountain, Baishi Mountain or Mudan rock. Hunters should offer meat as sacrafice while hunting there, otherwise the gun would miss as well as quarries, because the mountain may retain lots of sprirts of their ancestor, requiring descendants to offer sacrifice for every time of hunting.

(2) Tribal Hero: Yabu

        Yabu was a brave warrior, who would fight against Japanese army (police) by using coteau or jungle in the time of Japanese occupation, when Japanese could not control his whereabouts and many tribe warriors followed him to fight side by side. In order to reduce damage, the Japanese took Yabu’s mother under custody. He was caught by the trap while saving his mother. 
        Many are named as Yabu in previous Kebayan Area and current Jianqing community, because he is our ancestor as well as a respectable hero. Naming after him delivers the wishes of parents, expecting the receiver to be smart and diligent.

(3) Tribal Hero: Kobayan

        The village kept migration for appropriate residental places. One named Payan emerged out of the family, who was the son of Bonga, strong and smart, presenting superior ability from others as a child and drawing attention of clansman. But his mother often told him that he would be burdened with heavier responsibilities when he detected higher abilities in his body, and he would carry the expection to develop the clan. From then on, Payan started to serve the clansman, helping others and fighting against invasion, which obtain respect from the clansman for him.
        After Payan’s death, his clansman kept memorizing him and believed his spirit would protect the family, so that they called where they lived as ‘west Kebayan’ that later was changed slightly in pronunciation to be Kebayan and became current New Baiyang area.
