It has been 6 months since I participated in this research project. Thinking
back to the time when my mom asked me if I wanted to participate in the
Taipei 101 research project, I was thrilled. I was glad to hear that my
best friend Si-Ning was also taking part in the project. But at the same
time, I was puzzled because we had to produce a lot of writings. However,
I decided to overcome my fear for writing; thus I became a member of the
Fantastic 9! Our first orientation took place at the McDonald¡¦s. We had
to pick out our leader, vice leader and group leaders that day. We also
had to introduce ourselves to everyone. I was really happy because I made
many friends!
In the beginning, we had to go up to foreigners in front of the Taipei
101 building! It was my first interview; I was nervous yet excited. However,
I was turned down by the first person I approached! I was so embarrassed
but then I had faith in myself that I would be able to do it! Just as
expected, I did it!
In our summer vocation, the Fantastic 9 went on a 5-day summer camp. During
the 5 days, we interviewed Manager Liu at the Jason¡¦s Market Place. Mr.
Liu gave us a tour around the market and even gave each of us a small
present! Next, we interviewed the general public; however, they were not
as friendly as the foreigners. Still, we¡¦d like to thank them for helping
us out with our surveys! We then interviewed shops; each shop gave us
different feelings. Some were very friendly while some were fairly impatient.
Thus I decided to become a friendly kid! Also, we practiced interviewing
Chairwoman Chen and Architect Wang and went over the questions we wanted
to ask them. Our teacher also let us play trivia games on MSN and assigned
us questions that will be asked the next day! This learning-by-playing
method gave us great impressions!
After school started, we interviewed the Taipei 101 toy shop. There are
more than 7,000 toys in Toy Land. You won¡¦t believe they even have toys
for adults! After interviewing Toy Land, we also interviewed SONY and
BOSE. SONY carries many different electronic products, such as computers,
mobiles phones, etc.
BOSE is a specialized audio store. They have speakers that are as small
as the size of my palms! It was amazing! Then, we went up to the observation
deck. The sky was so clear that we were able to get an endless view of
the entire Taipei basin! There is a damper in the observation deck. Its
exterior looks like a gigantic golden ball and weighs up to a total of
660 tons! The mass of the damper take up 3% of the entire building!
In our research project, we got to interview Mr. Chung-Ping Wang, the
architect of Taipei 101, Mr. Hong-Ming Lin, the general manager of the
Taipei Financial Center Corp., Ms. Diana Chen, chairwoman of the Taipei
Financial Center. I still cannot forget the sincerity of Mr. Wang. He
spent 7 years of his life trying to build this building. Each word he
said touched my heart. Mr. Lin on the other hand was very kind and generous.
He even cancelled all his schedules for our interview. He then shared
with us a special tip that will always apply in life: Confidence, Intelligence,
and Courage. I hope I can do it!
The beautiful, diligent and friendly speech Ms. Chen has made on Taipei
101 allowed us to understand further the communication system in the Taipei
101 building. From this project, I have gained countless knowledge! My
writings have improved and I have become more and more interested in children¡¦s
poetry. I not only type faster but also know more about computers! Let¡¦s
work hard and win pride for Ren-Ai Elementary School! Thanks for all the
encouragements and supports everyone has given us!
