The Fantastic 9 was teamed up in May 2005 by a group of elementary students who had strong interest in the Taipei 101 building. Research projects on specific topics were often conducted by 5th or 6th graders or junior high students in the past. However, this time, Ms. May Wang and Ms. Chia-Ru Xiao from Ren-Ai Elementary School decided to give opportunities to younger students for us to widen our global horizon. Thus they implemented a set of mission and worksheets in this project to help us climb up to the 508-meter high mountain.

Nobody can miss Taipei 101. Taipei 101 pops into everyone's mind when holidays arrive. After all, it took 44 countries and nearly 20,000 constructors to complete this building. The Fantastic 9 also spend 10 months to complete this Taipei 101 project. We sacrificed our youth and time to explore Taipei 101 and will continue to show affection for Taipei 101 for the next 60 years.

Besides the 8 representative shops, 8 representative figures and 9 representative restaurants, we also got in touch with countless strangers and shops to hear what they have to say about Taipei 101. We have expressed our feelings toward Taipei 101 through writing children's poetry. All efforts we have put into will be displayed in both Chinese and English web pages and launched in Yahoo! Blog.

The Fantastic 9 is consisted of 9 team members, 6 volunteer moms, 2 instructors and an energetic cheerleader, Jun-Hong Li. We would like to thank all the people who agreed to our interview and show gratitude to all the businesses and individuals who showed their support.

Our dearest Fantastic 9 members had to attend an extra 5-day Taipei 101 summer camp in July 2005. During the camp, we had to make full use of our days and do 3 days work in one day from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening. We rarely had time off from class, and had to brainstorm continuously throughout the days.
The instructors had led many teams before but never had they led a group of team this young and wonderful. Ms. Hsiao and Ms. Wang had discerning eyes that tell greatness from mediocrity. They have truly found the greatest group of students and most enthusiastic group of parents.

July 1st Revisiting the first day, everyone watched the movie ¡§The Incredibles¡¨ together. Doesn't the Fantastic 9 remind us of such astonishing combination? It combines talents, innocence, spirits, loveliness, beauty, intelligence, mischievousness, courage, enthusiasm, and action.

It would be great if we could watch movies all day long during these 5 days. But brainstorming activities awaited us. The first brain action was to design a set of questions to ask the architect. We came up with many questions with all our brain power. Next, we had to think of questions to ask Ms. Chen and design survey questionnaires to ask the general public. At the end of the day, the Fantastic 9 had to go to Song Shan Senior High School for some physical endurance training. The volunteer moms had to learn photography skills which would help record the entire research journey.

July 2nd. We came up with a bunch of interview questions to ask the shops. For the first time, we wrote down what we have learned so far from this summer camp. We also held a breakthrough Taipei 101 online trivia session. It was a brand new challenge for us. In the evening, we attended the Cyber fair Award Ceremony held at the Taipei Municipal Teachers College. The event allowed us to exchange thoughts with students from Ming-De Elementary School. Together, we resolved to create a miracle in the Cyber Fair.

July 3rd. We watched the film of ¡§Engineering Disasters¡¨ in the morning. We discussed the relevancy of deadly events in the case of Taipei 101 building with reference to some of the major incidents, from the huge fire that took place at the MGM Grand Hotel, the overturn of the Titanic to Chicago skyscrapers. In order to cultivate our analytical skills, each group was assigned to come up with 30 different perceptives. In the afternoon, we all headed out to interview local tourists at the Taipei 101 building. The team interviewed more than 100 people. The feelings were different than those perceived when interviewing foreigners back in early June. In the evening, we took pictures of our group with Taipei 101. Our spirit rose to a peak as we experienced the glamour of Taipei 101. Today, we analyzed interview results obtained from more than 100 foreigners coming from 30 countries.

July 4th. We spent the whole morning trying to organize views of domestic tourists on Taipei 101 and proved the popularity of Taipei 101 in Taiwan. In the afternoon, we interviewed the best and the popular Jason's Market Place in Taipei 101. The most challenging part was interviewing the shops and giving thanks to all the assistance we have received. Of course, we were also turned down many times by our interviewees. We returned to our Fantastic 9 secret base later in the afternoon. By that time, everyone had gotten used to writing reports and sharing our exciting experiences from this research with the parents.
July 5th It was the day we finally faced the great architect who builds history for Taiwan. We interviewed Architect Chung-Ping Wang, who shared many stories with us about the Taipei 101 building. We prepared 18 questions to ask Mr. Wang. But we are sure that those were simple questions compared to the hundreds and thousands difficulties he had to solve.

The combination of 9 lovely angels and 1 little elf could turn into a group of 10 little devils. The noise we made could lift the roof of a house. We are glad we did not tumble the Taipei 101 building over, which proved that the building can handle yet another earthquake or scale-17 typhoon that comes and goes every 2,500 years.

Hsuan-Wei and Hsuan-Chung were going to the States; Chi-Heng and Yu-ting were going to France, the country of romance. They were going to bring a set of English survey questionnaires with them. Meanwhile, Si-Ning and Wen-Han were going to work on the interview results we got from the great architect. Jun-Cheng and his brother would be visiting the central part of Taiwan to exchange thoughts while conducting more surveys.

We hope everyone have a fruitful summer. We will meet again sometime at the end of July. Don't forget to post your thoughts on the forum. Thank you, our Fantastic 9 and their super moms and dads.
