The work of Uncle Huang Tiensu

Teacher Huang Wen-Chiung was first introduced to calligraphy in grade 3 at the school. She had shown great passion and talent about calligraphy then. From 1990 to 1994, she started officially training with Master Nien Wen-Yi, a well-know calligraphy teacher in Lukang, for four years. The reputable calligrapher at that time, Huang Tien-Su was Teacher Huang's uncle. With this genetic influence and family support, Teacher Huang Wen-Chiung used her spare time after work to practice calligraphy. She could continuously do calligraphy for several hours and even sacrificed weekends and holiday madly practicing calligraphy. Her style was free, smooth, bold and vigorous; neighboring residents are all very familiar and fond of her calligraphy. In 1992, with the encouragement of her neighbor, Ms Ke Chiu-Xia, Teacher Huang began to give calligraphy instruction to children in the neighborhood while continuing learning other fonts. As the family was not very well off, Teacher Huang had to abandon her studies and worked since she was a child, but she still found time to advance in calligraphy by duplicating various copybooks. After a period of hard work, she was able to master easily most of the commonly used fonts whether it was oracle bone, seal, clerical, cursive, running or regular scripts. Teacher Huang is direct and courageous. She likes to make friends with people and is keen to be among people, especially enjoying doing live calligraphy before a big crowd of audiences. With a unique calligraphy style and unlimited potential, Teacher Huang was known as a diligent genius in the profession of calligraphy. At the time of her twenties when she participated in Half Tank Calligraphy Club in Changhua, she had already been treated equally as that of a master, known as the youngest calligrapher of the time and given a name of "Pretty Lassie of Calligraphy".

She also founded Yuyuxuan Calligraphy Club and befriended with a lot of people. Eventually, she was invited to teach in many schools and organizations. Being able to intergrade interest with work makes her feel incredibly blessed. She has been in the profession of calligraphy for nearly 30 years with a countless number of students. She believes that calligraphy is an art of the common people, which can be easily carried on with only a brush, ink and paper. It is a wonderful pressure-relieving activity for both the young and the old; it is also a convenient performing art which can be implemented anywhere. Her story in calligraphy learning was legendary, and her diligent attitude and self-learning ability are even more inspiring and admirable.
