Teacher Huang Wen-Chiung came into contact with calligraphy in the third and fourth grades at elementary school. Perhaps she was influenced by her uncle, Master Huang Tien-Su. She has been outstanding in calligraphy since he was a child. She often participated in competitions in and out of school. However, subsequently, she had to help with the family's financial situation and thus stop her education and chose "work" over her "brush".

It was during the time while Teacher Wen-Chiung's cousin was waiting to take the Senior Civil Service Examination, when Teacher Huang began to learn calligraphy from Teacher Nien Wen-Yi. She practiced hard every day and gained better understandings as well as a greater passion for calligraphy. In July 1992, with the encouragement of her neighbor, Ms Ke Chiu-Xia, Teacher Huang began to give calligraphy instruction to children in the neighborhood. At first, she taught only at the altar table in front of the shrine at home. Later, she became a well-known calligraphy teacher because of her students' success in competitions. In order to teach the students, Teacher Wen-Chiung practiced her brushwork even harder. When she joined the Half Tank Calligraphy Club around the age of 20, she had reached the level to perform live calligraphy and was treated equally as that of the chairmen with a reputable name of "Pretty Lassie of Calligraphy"

Gradually, Teacher Wen-Chiung's calligraphy lecture also entered the school campus from the local community. To make the teaching of calligraphy further into the conventional education system, Teacher Wen-Chiung adopted the suggestion of Director Huang Yu-Huan (former director of the Zhongshan Elementary School, and now the principal of Dazhu Elementary School) to continue studying and often borrowed books related to the teaching of calligraphy. Teacher Huang fully demonstrates the spirit that "teaching and learning promote and enhance each other."

"Opportunities are reserved for those who are prepared." In 2007, Ms Huang Wen-Chiung grasped the only chance ever for certification of calligraphy teacher in Changhua County, and successfully passed the exam. Schools at all levels (such as Nanguo Elementary School, Zhongxiao Elementary School Art Class, Chang’an Junior High School Art Class, and Art Class in Changhua Art Senior High School of Arts) successively invited Teacher Wen-Chiung to be the instructor for calligraphy. She has also gone to organizations such as the Youth Chamber of Commerce, Women's Association, TSMC, police station, city office, Changhua Christian Hospital, and community college to promote the quintessence.

Teacher Huang Wen-Chiung has been in the profession of calligraphy for nearly 30 years and is still continually improving herself. She said that her self-expectation is to always "do her best". Last year, when Ms Huang was still the president of the Half Tank Calligraphy Club, she set a recorded of having three exhibitions in two years. A master like Ms Huang, with uncountable students all over the world, is still striving hard to promote calligraphy and fulfil her dream to help students fully capture the essence of "stability, calmness, peace, contemplation, gain" through doing calligraphy and find joy and motivation to continue writing.

Our team also hopes to share the beauty of calligraphy through this research and to value and contribute in the promotion of traditional culture.
