As the old saying of “1st Fucheng and 2nd Lugang ", the ancient town of Lukang was deeply influenced by Chinese culture. Many calligraphers organized calligraphy clubs. Their dedication to the art of calligraphy and literature created a prosperous artistic atmosphere in Lukang. Famous calligraphers such as Huang, Tiansu of the early day and Master Nien Wen-Yi of today both have their distinctive styles. Teacher Huang, Wen-Chiung of the new generation has been guided by both experts. Her calligraphy style is unique, and her brushwork is direct and carefree. Besides, she is a rare female in this domain of the profession. Teacher Huang suggests the beginners start first with the regular scrip of all other fonts, including oracle bone, bronze, seal, clerical, cursive, regular, and running scripts. After sufficiently mastering the regular script, they can choose which font to do next base on their wishes and the style of their writing. Each font has its different characteristics. The stroke of oracle bone, bronze, and seal scripts is exquisite and symmetrical emphasizing on the beauty of the spatial layout; the feature of the clerical script is that the beginning of horizontal lines is akin to the head of a silkworm while the finish is akin to the tail of a wild goose. The stroke of the regular script is neat, and the structure is complete and balanced. The running script is the most unrestricted font but required to be done with precision. It focuses on the majestic momentum with strokes like flowing water, which is the key to the proper demonstration of the beauty of the running script's untrammeled spirit.
