A Lifetime of Devotion
Qiu was married to a peasant’s son in 1988, and afterwards, she went teaching in Yuanlin town. She and her husband, a Chunghwa Telecom technique – MingQin Yang, worked diligently and lived thriftily to loan money and buy a house. They now have a well-off family with a boy and two girls. Since 1994, she had taken up the posts of the Director of Counseling Division and a music teacher. She loved her job and for her excellent performance, she carried off many educational awards and left her marks in many educational magazines. Just as Mrs. Qiu thought she was contented with her job, something happened and altered her thought.

In 1999, the earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale shook Taiwan, which rendered Yuanlin town devastated. Mrs. Qiu exerted her way of counseling to aid in psycho recovery for schools and communities in Changhua. She joined the Yuan-lin Folks Press (員林鄉親報) editor group formed by teachers in Changhua County, volunteered as a member of Cultural Bureau Xing Xian Volunteer Team to assist in academy of classical learning reconstruction, participated in Taiwanese Creative Writing and Introduction to Taiwanese Creative Writing classes taught by an author of literature and history –Kang Yuan (康原) – in Yuanlin Community College, and taught Taiwanese. She carried off Ministry of Education Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award in Changhua County twice and Educational Bureau Meritorious Counselor Award.

One day, something dawned upon Mrs. Qiu that she should not be confined within the campus’ walls; she should reach out to the community. Then she started to get a closer look at the place that bred her and took down the village history. After delving into the history of different tribes’ migration, she found that she is Raoping Hakka, and she also found that historical building Yuanlin Railway Barn, historical residence Yongjing Loyal House, Yuanlin Jiang Jiu He (江九合) and so on were once renovated by officials in Yuanlin, Yongjing, and Tianwei, Buxin, which were the close-by towns. From 2004 to 2012, within eight years, she had written nine books on village history, compiled New Yuan Lin Town Written Account, helped editing Characters and Society chapters in New Changhua Written Account, and she had also written other twenty or so books. She received Huang Qi Literary Awards(磺溪文學獎) for three times, Academia Historica Taiwanese Documentary Award (國史館臺灣文獻獎) for three times, Taiwan Literature and History Merit Award for Educators (臺灣文史績優教育人員獎), Yuanlin Contribution Award (員林社大特殊貢獻獎) , National Changhua University of Education Distinguished Alumni Award (彰化師大傑出校友獎) , National Taichung University of Education Distinguished Alumni Award (臺中教育大學傑出校友獎) and so on. She had then become a famous Literature and History author and a new media spotlight. Her award of speech is “Being a culture chairman, action speaks louder than words. It takes a lifetime of devotion for an outstanding performance in the vocation.”
