Influence and impact

 

     Taipei City Government promoted the policy of YouBike very much that made the public transportation more complete. Riding bikes became country-wide movement.
However, being the pioneer of using public bikes in the world, it's obvious to say that there are still some people haven't understood YouBike or some uncompleted problems in the system, even not considering the thoughts and feelings of people. With the participation of this competition, besides having more chance to learn about web design, we want to make more people understand YouBike.

      In order to make public more understand about YouBike, we set up a blog to introduce YouBike. In addition, we dug into the bicycle companies in foreign countries, try to analyze the difference between them and the system of YouBike. And compare the strengths and weaknesses of each system.

      According to the statistics, there are at least 5,000 YouBikes and exceeding 160 rental stations in Taipei. It's convenient and economy that almost a station every 500 meters. It's amazing that there are 12 people using the same bike a day. There are more than 2.5 minion people having registered. Leading up to October.2015, the frequency of use has broken 30 minion people, it's obvious to see that people have accepted bicycles as short means of transport gradually.

      As a result of the increase of the frequency of use, the shocks brought by bicycles riders are more and more evident. According to the statistics, many people think that the annoyance of passers-by increased. What pedestrians did before were watch out for the cars on the road and the space-occupying motorcycles, but people need to take care of bikes now. Because there is no coherence in the direction that people walk and ride, which may lead to an accident.

       On the other hand, because of the fashion of YouBike, there are lower people buying bikes. After YouBike came into being, the bicycle shops has decreases more than 30 stores.

 

      There are still some problems, such as the lack of bicycles at the rush hour and the incomplete of bicycles lanes. After releasing many questionnaires, we got the thoughts of public and the opinions about those policies. We hope to understand the impacts and shocks brought by running the policy and show the result to the authorities in order to complete the policy about YouBike. We are looking forward to encouraging more people to use public transportations to meet the purpose of environmental protection and energy saving. What's more, improving the live style of Taipei commuting culture, air quality, and traffic environments are goals we are working for.
