 Key Figure Volunteers Adoptive Car

When we arrived at the reception room of the shelter, some of the people were adopting dogs, Vet. Hung was telling them how to keep dogs, what to care about, and where to get the dogs vaccination.  The others who didn¡¦t know how to feed their cats were asking the staff there for help.  Their love had totally changed the dogs¡¦ and cats¡¦ destiny.

Everyone was busy.   We waited until 11:30. Not until the car from Li-Fe-Hui-Association drove away can we interview Vet. Hung.

bullet_28.gifQuestion 1: What¡¦s the current situation in the shelter?

bullet_25.gifAnswer:
The shelter operates for about thirteen years. We have one official vet and four to six contracted workers. I have worked here for more than six years. The shelter can accommodate 250 stray dogs and cats. Regularly, there are about 80   which are sent here every month. The adoptive percentage is about 20 percent. After the record film ¡§Twelve Nights¡¨ is released, the adoptive percentage goes up a lot. It is owed to the advertising campaign of the mass media.

bullet_28.gifQuestion 2: The site is really far-off. Can you improve the bad environments here?

bullet_25.gifAnswer:
The shelters everywhere confront the same problem because stray animals are not popular. The sites are always far away from the city center. It is not convenient enough for people to come here and adopt stray animals. This is a vicious cycle. Our Animal Disease Control Center has made an effort to have a new site from the county government, to build a brand-new shelter. It is planned to be located in the Fitzroy Park, Xizhou Township. Its place is bigger and its site is more convenient to promote adoption and thus to save more furkids.

bullet_28.gifQuestion 3: Some groups advocate TNR, Trap Neuter Return. Is it possible to carry it out?

bullet_25.gifAnswer:
Animals are used to live in the same region, so TNR is possible in the prairie. But on the closed campus, it is impossible because dogs are social animals. If there is enough food there, they will crowd together. The public can¡¦t accept the habitation of crowds of dogs. A website provides a successful example: ¡§A Foreigner successfully carried TNR into practice.¡¨ The success case results from the serious management of the foreigner.

bullet_28.gifQuestion 4: The operations of ligation between animals and humans are different. Why do we need to remove all of their generative organs?

bullet_25.gifAnswer:
The older dogs usually have diseases concerned with their generative organs. The female ones have genital organ tumor and the male ones have testis pathological changes. If they are just under the operation of the oviduct ligation or spermaduct ligation, they will have no stable emotions though they aren¡¦t able to be pregnant. If we ¡§neuter¡¨ them (remove all of their generative organs), they can get along with others very peacefully.

At the end, our teacher praises Vet. Hung¡¦s passionate service of furkids. Vet. Hung says, ¡§I have only a pair of hands. What I can do is limited. Hope you advertise to arouse people¡¦s love for the furkids in the shelter.¡¨
