Another key figure at Changhua Stray Dogs¡¦ Shelter is ¡§the long-term volunteers.¡¨ They have their own jobs in their daily life. Because of their love for animals, they joined the ¡§One-Day Volunteer¡¨ activity by chance, and then fell in love with the job of looking after these animals. Now they become the long-term volunteers. When holidays come, they hurry from everywhere just to accompany these ¡§twelve-night furkids.¡¨
The long-term volunteers can improve the manpower shortage in the shelter. On holidays, these volunteers help clean the rooms, wash dog cages, give dogs a medical checkup, walk the dogs to teach them how to get along with human beings, take photos of them, manage facebook, post some information about adoption on the Net, hold ¡§One-Day Volunteer¡¨ activities, recruit new members, and so on. These trivial jobs which the staff in the shelter can¡¦t carry out so well fall on the shoulders of the long-term volunteers.
Today is ¡§One-Day Volunteer¡¨ Day. These volunteers are too busy to interview today, so we take pictures of how they work here. In fact, Volunteers here always come and go. This is because they usually see another crowd of furkids when they come back here next week. They feel down and exhausted when facing the disappearance of life. To be energetic, they have to cheer each other up. This is also why the shelter always recruits new volunteers. If you are dog lovers, welcome to join them.

We find out that facebook is a good way to interview the long-term volunteers because we don¡¦t interview them face to face and they won¡¦t feel embarrassed. The following is what we interview them on the facebook.
Question 1: What is your job all about?
Answer: The main content of the job is to interact with the dogs by walking them. Through the interaction, we can understand their personality and health status, try to instruct them basic walking manners or some talent shows. The second content is to keep every cage clean and warm. When fall or winter comes, we have to cover their beds with something warm. It is a little cold recently, so you can make some donations to the shelter.
Question2: What¡¦s your original motive for working here? How do you feel now?
Answer: My dog, named Fly, was very sick when I adopted it, but it was fully recovered later. The event inspired me to help more dogs as possible as I can. I saw so much information about dogs on the Net, so I decided to pay a visit to the stray dogs¡¦ shelter. When I came here for the first time, I felt like taking all of the poor dogs home very much but I couldn¡¦t afford it. During the period of being a volunteer here, I brainstormed with doctors and other volunteers in hope that more and more people pay attention to this issue. We improved the hard wares here. We held the activity- ¡§One-Day Volunteer¡¨ Day to recruit new lone-term volunteers, to make the public experience how to keep a dog, and to let the public know that keeping a dog needs resolution and if you decide on adoption, you mustn¡¦t litter your dog. The activity really worked. Some of the One-Day volunteers decided to adopt the dogs.
Question 3: Does the shelter still recruit ne volunteers? What kind of person is qualified for this job?
Answer: The shelter always welcomes you to join their volunteers. The qualification for this job is to be patient and passionate with the dogs. You can be One-Day volunteers first. After you fall in love with the furkids, then think about being the long-term volunteers. All walks of life are OK, including students.
After we interview the volunteers on the facebook, there¡¦s a fire starting in our heart¡K
