After deciding to join the cyberfair, we started to watch out for any information about stray dogs on the Net. We found out there is a facebook named ¡§Yuanlin Stray Dogs¡¦ Shelter.¡¨ It is a non-profit organization which provides the public with a lot of information about stray dogs and cats. What interests us most is to experience being a volunteer. Every month, they choose one Saturday and let fifteen citizens experience being a one-day volunteer who works from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We can directly sign up for this activity on the facebook. The person in charge will answer us and a long-term volunteer to lead and instruct the beginners.
To prepare for the one-day volunteer, our homeroom teacher plays the video ¡§Twelfth Nights¡¨ for us to watch. The record film is shot in Changhua Stray Dogs¡¦ Shelter, so after watching the film, we understand more and thus release our uneasy feelings.
Next, we google about ¡§Changhua Stray Dogs¡¦ Shelter.¡¨ It belongs to Animal Disease Control Center of Changhua County. To avoid bothering the citizens by noises from animals, it is located in a distant area which is in the juncture of Changhua and Nantou County and there are tombs and dumping ground nearby. According to what Dr. Hung says, the shelter can accommodate 250 animals. 80 dogs on average every week are caught and sent there. The adoptive rate is very low: only two out of ten are luckily adopted.
Last, take a look at the blogs written by these volunteers who are passionate, patient, selfless, and full of spirit of giving. We look forward to the coming of August 15th.
