We have to
make some changes after we heard a word, "Animal Protection Act"
can't protect stray animals completely on the TV program "Our Island"
on Taiwan Public Television.
1. The animal shelter should be open to people: the environment should be
clean and tidy; the individual data of stray animals should be set; SOP is
needed; the shelter space should be enlarged for stray animals to exercise.
(Taichung Stray Dog's Home set a good example.)

2. We should
set special organizations to protect and take care of stray animals !
3. Keepers should get
"the license of keeping pets" before they keep any animals. In this
way, the keepers will be more responsible for their new family and there will
be fewer stray animals in Taiwan.
4. Do our best to raise
the rate of stray animals adoption. About ninety thousand of the stray animals
are put into euthanasia in Taiwan every year, but only ten thousand of them are adopted. Many reasons lead to the
low adoption of stray animals, such as propagating ineffectively, faraway
shelters, and so on. However, we can learn from Dr. Shi-En, Hong in Yuan Lin.
He set up a website that give out a lot of information about stray animals, so
that people who want to keep them can find the stray animals' data and then
adopt them easily.
5. Everyone
should spare no effort to make it better to find every stray dog a sweet home,
including the government, non-governmental organizations, and the people in Taiwan.

Our instructor, my members, and I went to ChangHua
Stray Dog's Shelter , volunteered to take care of the stray dogs for one day.
The senior volunteer there and the vet told
us how to take care of dogs. Before going there, I thought keeping dogs is a
piece of cake. However, I found three important things that we should learn
when the volunteers taught us: first, feed the dogs on time; second, be careful
about the dogs' fitness; third, discipline the dogs.
I tidied the dogs' quilts that are used by
them in winter. The senior volunteer told us the quilts will keep the dogs from
getting cold. Knowing that, I decided to donate the dogs some clothes as their
"quilts."

This is my second time to join the Taiwan School Cyberfair. Although I didn't get any prize, I still wanted to challenge again. To win the prize, our homeroom teacher and four new classmates joined our team.
In the beginning, our team was called
"A House of Puppies." However, they would die after staying in the
shelter for 12 days. So, we changed the inappropriate name. Because there are
many stray animals in the shelter, and many of them are dogs and cats, we
called our team "Cats & Dogs."
The most wonderful moment in my life is
being a volunteer in the stray dogs' shelter for a day. After getting along
with those dogs, I even want to say with them. I was surprised at their different
characteristics.

I felt nervous about
joining the Taiwan School Cyberfair. Thanks to our homeroom teacher, we could
cooperate well to finish a lot of jobs. In the beginning, I was afraid to be a
volunteer in the shelter. What if I was bitten by the dogs? Luckily, those dogs
were tame. With the senior volunteer's tips, we could get along with them well.
I learned a lot after joining the team, such as taking courses in the shelter, washing the dog cage, tiding quilts, edited our web page, and so on. It's great
to tell you my feelings and experiences!

As soon as
we got to ChangHua Stray dogs' shelter, the senior volunteers greeted us
joyfully and asked us if we would keep some of the dogs. Then, the senior
volunteers showed us how to train dogs. After that, we helped them tidy dogs'
quilts and clothes. On one hand, I was so happy when I saw the dogs watching
and greeting us so excitedly; on the other hand, I would be very sad they will
be killed after staying there for 12 days.
These dogs were abandoned because they were either noisy or sick. They were so poor that I even looked down on their keepers. Each keeper should be responsible for his pet all its life, no matter it is sick or noisy.

At first, my homeroom
teacher "cheated" me that the Cyberfair was quite interesting. When
doing jobs about our topic, I found it troubling and didn't feel it interesting
at all. However, looking back on what I have done, I really felt these
experiences were really unforgettable.
1. One-day volunteer in ChangHua stray
dogs' shelter: Before being a volunteer, I was scared; after being a volunteer,
I felt interested because they were so cute and friendly.
2. Interview: I was afraid to fail in
finishing the interview with the senior volunteers, vets, teachers, parents,
and classmates. It's surprising that most of them were glad to help us.
3. Questionnaires: Most parents were curious about
the content of the questionnaires. After I explained what we did to them, theypraised us very much.
4. Troubles: Time flied and the jobs had to
be finished by Chinese New Year. The jobs included the website setting, the animation
making, the pictures refining, and reporting writing. By the way, I worked so
hard that I didn't t take a nap at noon many times and couldn't concentrate in
class in the afternoon.
5. Dos and Don'ts: adoption instead of
buying; problems of stray dogs need solving better; be responsible for the
pets; punishing illegal animal breeders; be prepared well for the cyberfiar.

Mom gave me a ride to
the shelter to be a volunteer for one day. I was so scare because I even saw
tombs and the sanitary landfill site.
We planned to walk
the dogs on that day, but we changed our plan because of the rainy day. The
senior volunteers taught us how to hold the rope, train, control, and take care
of the dogs, …etc. We also tidy the quilts and clothes for the dogs.
I was very sad because they were abandoned by
their owners, caught by people, and would be killed in 12 days. I wondered why
the owners didn't take care of them for their whole life but abandoned them. I
thought they should treat the dogs as their family.

I spent most of the time writing reflection,
collecting information, refining pictures, an so on. I was poor at making
webpage. Luckily, I could upload everything we needed for our topic to our
website with our homeroom teacher' help .
It's also special experience to interview
our principal and asked her to fill in the questionnaire.
When I first saw these dogs, I really wanted to take them home. Later, I found I had little time and money to keep them, so I gave up taking them home. If you love them, be sure to visit ChangHua Stray Dogs' Shelter.

Although adults told me to keep away from
the stray dogs that may bite me, I still liked to feed them. When I fed them,
they would be very happy.
As soon as I heard about adoption, I went
to the shelter. Knowing those stray dogs would be killed in 12 days, I ….. I
was angry that people spent much money buying them but abandoned them easily. In
addition, the government had to spend money killing these dogs.
After being a volunteer in the shelter, I
adopted a dog and a cat which were neutered and spayed. They would be very
happy because I put on new clothes on them, gave them a ride often.
On our website, we provide people some
links to know more about dogs. Take a look at the information and hope you can
find a new dog friend.

As soon as I transferred to Yang Min Junior High School, my classmates
invited me to join the team. Loving challenges, I promised to join the team
immediately.
We did a lot of jobs about the topic, like
volunteering for one day, the cage using, website setting, questionnaire
filling in, …and so on. Being a volunteer impressed me most because I made
friends with so many dogs and cats, learned skills to get along with and take
care of them. I recommended that everyone can be a volunteer for the stray
animals or save their life by adopting them.

Although we failed the cyberfair last year,
our homeroom teacher encouraged us to prepare more for the game this year. I
was inspired to join the game this year.
We learned much software, like Namo
Webeditor, Swish Max, Gif, Photocap, and so on. Moreover, our homeroom teacher
suggested us to make a team with ten people because there were a lot of jobs to
share and to do, such as interview, questionnaire, picture taking, recording…and
so on. After consulting many great works done by the previous teams, we finally
finished the summary of our topic.
Finally, I wanted to tell everybody, "adoption instead of buying, and caring about stray dogs."
