Artist Yan Wen-yu learned kiln operation from his father. He has been in the field for more than 40 years, but he never stop learning and researching for the latest techniques. There is a studio called Datun Kiln run by Yan. He spends lot of time on finding new glazing materials. Also he carefully writes down the process and statistics of encaustic. Based on these data, he manage to make his pottery art work to be done in a scientific way. His own works of art look bright and colorful.

When we visited Yan teacher, teacher Yan just ready to take works out from electric kiln. Each of art works are teachers spent a lot of thought to complete. Mr. Yan said he most like to do rice urn, urn in the production of rice, plus a "full" character, full of symbolic urn full of rice. Yan teacher used to live here in Yangmingshan, so after finished his duty he settled in his hometown Yangmingshan . Mr. Yan will do the record  of his day at the kiln, in the past few years, no exception, we so admirable his perseverance.

Today we're going with teachers to interview pottery artist Yan Wen yu in  Yangmingshant. He was oldest person to make pottery in Beitou. Arriving at his home, suddenly stared mostly because we had never seen such a big house in the mountains, when he was pottery, rice bowls and urns works in his studio filled with pottery, very spectacular.

Once entering the studio, Mr. Yan demonstrate us how to burn pottery. First, the teacher put big and heavy urn into the kiln, and then sent tiles into the top and four sides around the kiln, and finally the close lid up and turn on the switch, start to burn the pottery.

I think the teacher Yan inherited his father's experiences and learn new knowledge outside, with Yangmingshan good quality clay, will be able to create new opportunities for Datun kiln.
