Student: Hello, could you introduce yourselves first?
Qian-Han: Hello, kids. I’m, Qian-Han. We went to the Plum Tree Creek exhibition in science museum before. At the beginning of the year, we decided to do a research about the Plum Tree Creek. However, it is not easy to do the research because it’s difficult to meet the locals from Zhuwei, until we met teacher Chen Jian-Xing. We are thankful that he provides lots of information to us.
Student: Why do you choose to have the research about the Plum Tree Creek?

Qian-Han: I was born in Luchou, ever holding an event about the Plum Tree Creek with Zhuwei studio together in science museum. After visiting the exhibition, I found the river needs more attention from people. Especially after I came to Zhuwei, I noticed that most people have no idea about the river. Did you notice it when you have an interview there? The condition of the river is corresponding to the environmental issue we want to do. That’s why we choose it.
Student: Did you find anything?
Qian-Han: Find anything? After I came here, I found many people don’t know the river. In my imagination the river was clean and beautiful. I asked some owners from grocery stores. They said that they had ever caught crabs, Taiwan chubs, loaches and other fishes in the river before. Then I think I must visit the place where near Taipei and it’s possible to catch Taiwan chubs. However, after I came here, I found that it was totally different from what I imaged. The river has bad smell and some areas are shortage of water. We didn’t go to the origins of the river as you said.

Students: How long have you researched on the Plum Tree Creek? Do you understand it?
Qian-Han
: We have done the research around two weeks. Because we are not locals, we don’t know anything about it. We have to come to Zhuwei to interview experts and locals. That’s why we can have an interview with teacher Chen Jian-Xing.
Student: What kind of research do you have?
Qian-Han: We are having a special report about environmental issue. We need to do a research, write down our opinions after researching and then have a presentation. Professors will read and record on it. If there is an opportunity, we will join a competition too.
Students: What methods do you use to survey the Plum Tree Creek? Do you use any instrument?
Qian-Han: It’s a great question. We didn’t use any instrument. We just came here and started to do the research. We haven’t walked along the whole river. Because we visited the river with chairman Kuo today, we could know how to go up. We do the research via our specialty, interviewing and photographing, learned from department of journalism. Therefore, we record the river by taking pictures and video through camera and then asking questions during the interview. We don’t use instrument to detect how contaminated the river is as you do.

Students: Did you walk along the trail of the Plum Tree Creek?

Qian-Han: We walked from downstream to midstream along the trail but haven’t reached the origins. We haven’t finished it.
Student: What is your expectation about the Plum Tree Creek in the future?

Qian-Han: We hope more people notice it and you can keep paying attention on it. Tell parents and siblings. Tell more and more people so that everyone can protect it together.
Students: Thanks for your participation.

Reflection:

This time we had an interview with student majoring in department of journalism from Chinese Culture University . We know that people could catch crabs, Taiwan chubs, loaches and other fishes from the Plum Tree Creek before. However, it’s impossible now. The river was clean and beautiful. We also could go fishing there. But nowadays, some areas are shortage of water and smelly. We are going to let more people know it, pay attention on it, have a deeper understanding on it and protect it. Only when everyone joins the protection event together, nobody will consider it as a ditch. Therefore, we should help each other and do not damage the ecological system so that living creatures won’t disappear and it won’t get dirtier either.
