Waste Material Into Art!

The teacher came up with a lot of waste material from somewhere, stored in the corner of the classroom we were using. We did not know that these were the materials we would turn into art.

When each group decided on the piece they wanted to make, we first discussed which materials we would make the body of each animal out of. The teacher gave us suggestions, such as making the crab legs out of straws because straws can bend into leg-like shapes. We used a toilet paper roll for the giraffe’s neck because it’s very long, and a table for the main part of the body and legs. We used cotton for the wool on sheep and other assorted materials. Once we prepared the materials, we began construction.

We encountered little challenges while creating our pieces, such as difficulties sticking the crab legs on. We would stick them on and they would fall off, this happened several times until we finally got them to stick. We did not have much of an issue with anything else, except when the giraffe was too tall and we had to ask the teacher to glue his head on.

Let’s take a look behind the scenes at these pieces of art!!

Animal Chorus
We used cardboard for the body and used CDs as materials

Animal Chorus
Teachers working hard alongside students

Mysterious Land
Do you know what we were making here? My classmates were making a river made of rocks and colored pape

Mystery House
The home of the animals was so large we needed some help from the adults to build it

Creature House
Painting the rocket fish red

Creature House
Classmates were even lying down on the floor in order to paint the fish

Mystery House
A candy container was used for the body, paper tubes for limbs, and gloves for fingers

Mysterious Revenge

The giant River God was harder to make, like some of our pieces. We needed some parental help

Mysterious Revenge
This is a fish, a strange mutant fish

Water Guardian
We were almost done with this piece after adding some bamboo strips to a basket. Can you guess what this is?

Colorful Riverbank Chair
We painted these driftwood chairs in color, creating beautiful pieces

Colorful Riverbank Chair
We formed unused driftwood into artistic chairs

Water Guardian
The interior of the guardian was made inside this net

Colorful Swan Chairs
The interior of the swan bench was actually an old table the school didn’t want

Colorful Swan Chairs
The swan looked much better once it was painted

Environmentally Friendly Rainbow Chairs
We cleverly transformed these unwanted boxes into art. Soon it would be ready to set sail!
