Interview Background

Yongkang Business District is administrated by Daan District. In one of our discussions, one member just got a sudden idea that we might have chance to interview the Daan District Chief. Surprisingly, Ms. Suh responded to our request very promptly and promised to be interview by us who are just school students.

The Position of Yongkang Business District

The district chief told us that “there is no clear boundary for Yongkang Business District; it is extended from Yongkang Street. All business districts developed in this way”. Ms. Suh thinks that Yongkong Business District is more casual and cleaner than other business districts, and the Yongkang Park is a good place for rest when people did shopping in that district. In addition, at the beginning of on-boarding, Ms. Suh planned “Walking Daan” routes, and one of them is the route to visit the old dormitories around Geo76. Daan District hopes that visitors can experience the humanities culture of Yongkang Business District.

Yongkang Business District’s Specialties

From the district chief’s point of view, Yongkang Business District has not only find food, but also many stores with strong beliefs. Yongkang Park is a special little world where you can appreciate the street performance all the time. So the chief thinks that performers will have more space if there is a stage established in the park.

The supporters behind Yongkang Business District development

After MRT Dongmen Station opens for business, there are more visitors but the district doesn’t become less clean. Ms. Suh told us that the main reason is that there are several supporters: the neighbor magistrate, cleaners, and the development association. They make the district better without making their efforts wildly known.

Yongkang Business District’s Worries

The transportation problem is very serious since people and cars occupy each other’s ways in Yongkang Business District on the weekends. Ms. Suh thinks that the district can block the streets or control the transportation control to avoid inconvenience and accidents. Residents living in Shida Business District have opposed the inconvenience caused by the local stores. However, Ms. Suh doesn’t think that the same thing may happen in Yongkang Business District. The reason is that the local stores understand more about respecting local residents, and will close the stores on time and get along with the residents peacefully.

Yongkang Business District’s future

Ms. Suh would like to make a bulletin board in the Yongkang Park, and make a map with different colors to represent Yongkang Business District’s different areas. In addition, Ms. Suh would like to make the map more delicately to attract visitors to understand the business district more clearly. In addition, the lanes connecting to Yongkang Street are similar in appearance, which confuse the visitors very much. Therefore, it can promote the business district and reducing visitors’ chance of getting lost by making guide boards which show the nearby stores and are also kind of installation art.
