  • Venue
  • Belief

In the busy Yongkong Business District, there is a good venue for tasting tea, which has no brand but a yard and a wood door to partition off the nosiness and thus create a peaceful and antique tea shop. Teacher Ho loves tea; so he founded Yeh Tang studio and opened it to the public in Yongkong Business district in 2002. He contributes himself to tea research and promotion. He enjoys tea learning and thus treats Yeh Tang as a venue for tea promotion, not for tea trade. Therefore, Yeh Tang becomes the best venue for sharing tea history and beauty, and tasting the bliss of tea.

The most nature decoration is the simplest.

Yeh Tang is open in Yongkong Business district because the district is a culture and education area with many old houses and universities, not because of its business attribute. In addition, Yeh Tang has a yard to partition off the noisiness, which creates a peaceful and a proper atmosphere for tasting tea. Teacher Ho said that “there is no special decoration; the biggest specialty is that we replace the iron door and window with wood door and window”. Teacher Ho thinks that the wood door and window can be used repeatedly. Most of the furniture is Teacher Ho’s collection after a long period. He thinks that every stuff has its own fit place, and then the stuff will be the most nature decoration. Thus, people won’t think the venue miscellaneous even though there are a lot of stuffs.

A venue belongs to tea only.

“Yeh Tang is a venue of offering an atmosphere of tea only”, said Teacher Ho. He hopes that the customers will feel the tea air as long as when they come in. Each corner of Yeh Tang has been elaborately decorated, including the place for collecting and showing tea set, the mild and warm light, the classic and gentle music, and the tea smelling fulfilled in the air. The whole place is for creating peaceful and bliss atmosphere for the customers who go to Yeh Tang.

Tea’s Three levels of attraction

Teacher Ho said that “my love of tea is an unexpected one brought by unintentional actions”. At the beginning, Teacher Ho was attracted by the tea’s color, smelling, and the taste. From the sensory appreciation, Teacher Ho stepped to the soul level: he loves tea from the point of cultural view. Because of connecting with the nature, by learning the tea world, Teacher Ho realizes the importance of tea culture: tea connects the politics, economy, and humanities of a generation, and thus we understand Taiwanese culture though the tea culture.

Not promotion but sharing

Teacher Ho thinks that he is sharing the love of tea, not promoting the tea. The reason is that the culture asset is cumulated for a long time, and thus the culture doesn’t belong to anyone. He understands tea and thus has some results just because that he spends more time than other do; so he would like to share what he gained with others.Yeh Tang offers a comfortable, easy, and free environment; there is no extra service and everything is shared with the public. The customers won’t feel stressed but happy and bliss to enjoy the tea. Teacher Ho thinks that he can forward the belief of “free and thus bliss” by sharing the love of tea.

Story

Mr. Tai-Hsiang Lee, a famous local musician, has been to Yeh Tang. Teacher Ho recalled that “he just sat on the chair near the door”. At that time, Mr. Lee got Parkinson’s disease and thus he had difficulty in walking. However, he strived to go up the stairs to get into Yeh Tang. At that moment, Teacher Ho disliked the stairs, which he originally liked, very much. Because of the connection of tea, Teacher Ho has big impression on Mr. Lee who touched him very much.
