Charity Bazaar at the Yuanlin Fruit and Vegetable Market
→Reflection
1. Activity background:
Hearing that Yuanlin Township Office had the annual activity of handing out Spring Festival couplets to the public to share with people the joy of Chinese New Year and the happiness of engaging in charity works, we decided to invite everyone to join our love in action.
2. Activity date and venue:
Date: January 19, 2014
Venue: Yuanlin 1st Fruit and Vegetable Market
3. Activity content:
When we arrived at the plaza outside Yuanlin Township Office, queues of people wishing to receive Spring Festival couplets had formed a few circles around the plaza. However, we had to move to the nearby Yuanlin First Fruit and Vegetable Market and changed our plan of fundraising to ‘Charity on Streets” in absence of a permit application, which allowed for fundraising activities outside the Yuanlin Township Office.
Luckily we received patronage from many people, which was possibly because of our Chingsau Elementary School Class 503 uniforms or because of the long history of Chingsau Elementary School in the local community. At the fruit and vegetable market, we received a rewarding amount of money from people’s big or small donations. Some people even inquired about the information of Amitofo Care Center, which showed Yuanlin residents’ good heart!
4. Afterthoughts:
The drop ornaments made of paper clay were almost sold out. Our bookmark cards were also popular and attracted an increasing number of buyers, which enabled us to nearly recoup costs on these artworks. We also received a mixture of responses during the sale. Teachers taught us to wear a smile and say “thank you for giving us a chance” to everyone. Hawking goods and encouraging people to purchase our goods might appear easy yet actually required a great deal of know-how in real practice.
