Discuss about the idea of charity bazaars to finance delivering newspapers to mountains and aid Amitofo Care Center
1. Activity background:
In addition to radiating heat and light in the world of arts, members of the “The Nine Prodigies of Huangsi” also devoted themselves to numerous charity works such as integrating calligraphic works with scenarios in real life, demonstrating writing Spring Festival couplets with ink brushes, selling postcards for charity, etc. In arranging the thematic study, we wished to propagate the beauty of Chinese calligraphy to as many people as possible and enable people to become familiar with the calligrapher group “The Nine Prodigies of Huangsi”.
2. Activity Date and Venue:
Date: November 6, 2013
Venue: The Principal's Office
3. Activity content:
Benefiting from the public’s love and care, Chingsau Elementary School Class 503 students had enjoyed been privileged to be the experimental class to receive 16 copies of Mandarin Daily News every day. Therefore, we would like to include more children in remote rural areas or children who are less fortunate to join us in newspapers reading. With this idea in mind, we would like to raise money for Mandarin Daily News’s plan of “delivering love to mountains”.
In a causal conversation with a student’s parent, the student’s parent mentioned that Amitofo Care Center was in desperate need for monetary donations. Amitofo Care Center was the first orphanage in Blantyre city, Malawi, bankrolled by a Buddhist organization after Nan Hua Temple - the largest Buddhist temple and seminary in Africa, was built when Venerable Hui-li visited Africa in 1992 to solicit for almsgiving only to witness widespread AIDS, poverty, unrest, haunting death, and millions of orphans wandering on streets. The establishment of Amitofo Care Center was to allow orphans to grow up healthily in a comfortable and sound environment and be free from the fear of poverty and famine. We, as children ourselves, would be more than happy to reach out to help those orphans in hardship.
Incorporating love of the “The Nine Prodigies of Huangsi”, we decided to made “The Nine Prodigies of Huangsi” postcard sets, paper clay drop ornaments, and exquisite bookmarks for charity bazars.
4. Afterthoughts:
Collaborating to raise money to finance children’s study and to help children, whether in Taiwan’s mountain areas or in Africa, to fulfill their dream of studying was a good deed that filled our hearts with joy.
