2008/2/28Activated Green---The Research Motivation of Green Map in TaChu Village

Contents:

一、Research Motivation:  

      The Green Map is called “the Green Life Map” in Taiwan and its abbreviation is “Lui Hwo Map”.  It is a kind of map concerning the nature and cultural environment.  The completion of the map is through the local people.  Green Map Icons are used to designate the meaningful scenic spots in ecology and society.  These scenic spots will make people feel strong connection with the natural environment.  People will be happy and pleased with themselves.  In addition, it will make us find ways to reduce the negative impact to our environment and take up the ecological system knowledge.  Thus the community members will know the health-promotion organizations and institutions.  It can connect the people with the nature and promote the people’s local sense.  (http://www.greenmap.org)  Briefly speaking, the Green Map is a tool for reaching the sustainable future.          

   The so-called “sustainable” means that we shouldn’t use things which will damage the global environment in daily life, work, food, beverage and entertainment.  Besides, we then can ensure the quality of life to our culture, races and the generations in the future.

   Nowadays the Green Map System is an eco-cultural movement.  A completion of the Map stands for the involvement of the localized knowledge, movements and responsibilities.  It just accords with the socail learning area to combine the four basic ideas “survival, living, life and existence”.  Thus we can merge this lesson into the learning activities of the social learning area.   

   On account of the above ideas and the Remote Digital Aid Project from  E-Service Volunteer of National Changhua University of Education, it inspired our principal Mr. Chang Jei-ju and the dean Mr. Juo Shuin-de to participate in the Cyber Fair on environment issue.

       Hopefully we can demonstrate the digital research result with the spirits and ways of the Green Map through plans, participation in the survey activities on natural and ecological study, local customs and conditions or feelings of the people, combining the collective observation of the parents, teachers and students, exploring and recording the ecological and cultural feelings of our campus and community. 

 

Further more we hope ourstudents will know far more about the local and natural environment of TaChuVillage.  We’d like to cultivate our children to become the green seeds for subsoiling ecological environment and local education.

三、Research Methods 

1.      To collect related information on-line.

2.      To read the books about the Green Map.

3.      To study and visit:  The seed-teacher training of the Green Map,  visiting Taichung Office, the Society of Wilderness and participation in the cyber digital afforestation project.

4.      Group discussion and conversazione.

5.      To invite the professionals and scholars to school for counselling.

四、 The Result and Discussion of the Research 

1.      The teachers and students know further about the local and natural environment of TaChu Village through the topic research proceeding.

2.      To understand and make use of the meanings and icons of the Green Map.

3.      To understand that the local historical remains and the preservation of the ecology is of great urgency.

4.      To know clearly about making use of the Green Map for developing the sustainable idea globally.

5.    To develop the natural ecological and cultural feelings in the local campus and the community outward by digital green mapmaking activities.

2008/2/28Activated Green--- The Suggestions and Reflections of the Research V, A Case Study---Green Map in TaChu Village

Contents:

五、 Suggestions and Reflections 

1.The study is just a beginning.  We need to keep observing and researching and then we can know further about the natural ecology and the local feelings of the local campus and the community.  Therefore we will keep tracking and recording.

2.Through the assistance of the class PTA and Parents Association, the people of the community can pay more attention to make the Green Map together.

3.Gradually I found out through the research procedure with the students that the so-called teacher-students relationship is vague.

2008/2/28Advisor Wu Bao-jia

Contents:

The students ask the questions naively, share enthusiastic and try hard to solve the problems.  As I am used to playing a role of “instructor” and “leader”, I loosen myself to reexamine my “opinions” and “position”.  I ask myself from the bottom of my heart that I have never felt or believed the fact that the children are born to pursue knowledge by instinct.  Furthermore I doubt deeply that the children have the ability to “rustle up food” to “feed” their stomachs of knowledge.  Yet they plunged into and gave a lot of assistance to the Aactivated Green program. It really presented the kids a wonderful opportunity to make the students and me have a fantastic beginning in “the procedure of the knowledge construction”, “knowledge stems from life’ and “care and sprout of environment and beauty”.

It was very tough to research in the first place.  We felt uneasy for “the unknown” and “ambiguity”.  In addition it was difficult because of the self-limitation.  Therefore we obtained knowledge and self-confidence and created many valuable memories through the articles accumulated.

I adore the converted “me” and the converted children.  Indeed, they are the energetic elves of the Activated Green on the PaGua Mountain.

Read what the students wrote in the research report and then you will know that all their efforts are worth collecting and sharing.  We will remember the mutual progress in our life forever.  It is because the course is the most complete and meaningful.

2008/2/27The Report of Advisor Chu Chin-yi

Contents:

        Before we paid a visit to the Society of Wilderness, I was not so touched by the Green Map Movement.  I simply wanted to accomplish a job and a movement.  Yet after we visited Taichung Office, the Society of Wilderness, it opened another field of vision to us.

       The Taichung Office is located in a very unnoted and small alley.  The wok team here is enthusiastic about our land and lives.  We can have further concept in our environment through the transparency pictures made by them.  We were moved to know each story from the trasparency and caught by the perceived environment.  What impressed me most was some pictures taken in the entrance of the forest.  These pictures had been taken in the smae place.  It was green and widely spread five years ago, and then it went down a little, at last, the forest looked bare one year ago.  Then I realized why there’s a sign with a tearful eye.  I think what it wants to say is the phenomenon of the withering.

        Let’s start from our own environment!  Hohefully such withering will be cut down day by day.  May Green activate again!

2008/2/27The Reflection on Cyber Fair  (The Volunteer Parent  Jeng Bao-chien)

Contents:

I am very pleased to have such opportunity to take part in Cyber Fair activity held by school.  The activities begin from this semester.  I would like to share my reflection of study.  The first trip was to visit Taichung Office, the Society of Wilderness.  The teachers and students up to a total of 21 went to Taichung on the first day of the winter vacation.  We know there are some people who cherish the same ideals and devote themselves to the ecological preserve.

Our school sensed that our children lacked of technique.  We invited the advisor Miss Lin Su-jen to teach our students to make picturebooks.  The topic was “My School” stretching to the kids’ families.  The teacher used costly acrylic materials and the students all tried hard to do the job.  They did it with their creativity.  The result surprised the teachers.  Under the teacher’s guidance, the students were inspired to show their artistic ability.  It was really a gift given from school.  

In the speech of the Society of Wilderness on February 19th , Class A, the fourth grade had a very valuable lesson.  They introduced every detail in global warming and the measures to solve such major problem.  Besides, they introduced the prototype trees in Taiwan and how to do a rubbing of the leaves.  Under the guidance of Mr. Chung Bu-lao, we planted Taiwanese prototype trees in the movement “Get Online, Being Green” held by Chunghwa Telecom in the afternoon.  The teachers and the students of our school all planted the trees, such as Calocedrus Formosana, Princess Flower, Polygonum Multiflorum Thunb, Cinnamomum Kanehirae Hayata and Lagerstroemia Subcostata etc.  (The folk name is Ho Bu-pa.  It means that even monkeys can’t climb such slippery trees.)  They made the WunDe Backyard Garden---The Fairy Land flourishing and prosperous in the Chinese New Year.  I was so honored to take part in the activity.  Thanks to our school, it gave the teachers and students another type of learning.  I would like to show the gratitude of all the parents.

The Reflection of the Research  (Fang Tse) 2008-2-27

Contents:

I was so happy to take part in the cyber fair this year.  It was a very rare opportunity.  Our school is in the countryside.  It was very tough job to obtain such an opportunity.  The knowledge that the students of the fifth and sixth grades could join the activity made me excited and thrilled.  How could I miss such a great chance?

Then I attended the activity with my friend.  We drew up our reports at the midday break every day.  I introduced the scenic spots near our school and nearby and the reflection to Taichung Office, the Society of Wilderness.  The Office is not that big as I expected.  Although it is a very small place, we had many good memories there.  The ladies in the Office taught us how to make a Green Map.  We could even use signs to indicate what we wanted to show.  Furthermore they showed us many pictures of beautiful scenic spots including DaBaJien Mountain.  Taiwan is so beautiful and hopefully we can protect our Formosa.

2008/2/27The Reflection of the Research  (Huei Ru)

Contents:

I was so honored and pleased to have this opportunity to take part in the Cyber Fair this year.  It’s quite difficult to obtain such a chance in the remote area like our school.  There were too many students wanted to join the activity.  Luckily I was chosen.  Our teacher told us that she wanted to decide who could participate the activity by drawing lots.  I was so nervous to pray and pray.  I repeatedly said my prayers in my mind.  When the time came, our teacher called out for the lucky ones.  At last I unexpectedly heard my name.  I gave cheers from the bottom of my heart.  I couldn’t believe what I heard.  I thought that was all because my sincere prayers made me dreams come true.  We went to the computer room to draw up our reports at the noon break on the first day in the Cyber Fair Activity.  The dean asked us to introduce the beautiful scenic spots around TaChu Village and the relection of Green Mapmaking when we went to Taichung Office, the Society of Wilderness last time.  I got through very tough time.  Partly we should resist the feeling of sleep, partly we tried hard to manage our report and tried not to type the wrong words.  Although it’s a hard time finishing our job, those good memories will be lasting in my heart forever.

Contents:

I was so delighted to have the opportunity to take part in the activity this time.  I obtained a lot of knowledge in the activity.  At the beginning when I heard the news from our teacher, I was wondering if I should go for it or not.  A friend of mine asked me to join with her, I took my courage in both hands to step in.  I was so surprised and so excited.  We drew up our reports together and discussed together.  I was fond of this feeling.  It’s terrific.  We even went to the Society of Wilderness because of the activity.  We were taught to make the Green Map.  What impressed me most was the films to introduce the beautiful scenic spots in Taiwan and the slogan in the film,  “We have only one Formosa and we have only one globe.”  When we tried to make the picturebooks, we mixed the colors with the roller, painting and cutting together.  There are so many beautiful memories to keep.

When I drew up my report during these days, I always heard a voice from my mind, “Try harder and harder.  Don’t give up.”  It is a very challenging opportunity for myself and it’s also so meaningful.

Contents:

My name is Hsiu Ying aged 12.  Although I am a little fat, my figure is medium size.  Many people consider me very cute.  Hopefully I can lose some weight this year.

Contents:

I am not a very smart girl, but I always try my best to learn.  I am not that lovely, yet I am sincere to everyone.  Coming from a single-parent family, I am not pessimistic because I still have the love and care of my father and my grandparents.  They support me everything I need and I am happy.  My personality is very open and clear.  Also, I am not a person to bear a grudge.  I will forget all the unhappiness after the sun sets.  I am happy everyday.

I am very pleased to participate in this activity.  Yet I’ve been cudgeling my brains trying to draw up my report.  It doesn’t matter if only I can take part in this contest.  I don’t care.  The only thing I want is win.

Contents:

I thought that Cyber Fair was not fun in the first place.  After I took part in the activity, I obtained a lot of knowledge.  I had many things to do after my participation in this activity.  For example, drawing up the report is a necessity and besides, the Green Map making.  At first when I saw the tools on the desk, I thought that it must be a very tough and time-consuming job for me to do.  After I tried it, I realized that it was quite simple and fun.  I really learned a lot during these two days and I did my level best to do many many things.

I am a student in Class A, the 4th Grade.  To take part in the Cyber Fair I could get much knowledge and know better about the Green Map,  I felt bored but I had no choice because I was forced to do this job by our dean.  My report was quite less than those of the other students’ on account of my late participation.

Hi!  Everyone.  My name is Huang Jun-yen.  My hobbies are surfing online and playing balls.  My report was to introduce the beautiful scenic spots around our school and I should post it online.  We went to the Society of Wilderness to make the delicate picturebooks.  Afterwards the teachers there took us upstairs to the second floor, they showed us the beauty of the trees and the mountains.  In the end, I know I should pay more attention to make picturebooks and the report.

I am Huang Yu-nin, the sixth grade of WunDe Primary School.  I am now taking part in the Cyber Fair.  From the day on my participation, I felt a little bored.  That’s because I should type much and draw up my report.  I was forced to come to this activity by the dean.  I had nothing to do but follow him.  At first that was what I thought.  Later on I felt it quite fun to me.  Through the dean’s teaching, my ability in composition improved far better.  The grade of my composition is getting better, too.  Although I could only stay in the computer room, the dean encouraged me that I would make greater progress if I did my job more enthusiastically.

My name is Hsiu Bo-jay and I am now in the sixth grade of WunDe Primary School.  I am now taking part in the Cyber Fair.  From the day on my participation, I felt a little bored.  That’s because I should type much and draw up my report.  I was forced to come to this activity by the dean.  I had nothing to do but follow him.  At first that was what I thought.  Later on I felt it quite fun to me.  After typing my report, I would have some leisure time to pay a visit to some new places and see many unusual things.  Not only did I broaden what I see and hear, but I could train my language and composition ability   I really can attain two objects by a single move.

I am a student in Class A, Sixth Grade.  Taking part in the Cyber Fair made me to know further about the Green life.  It helped me a lot.  Yet sometimes it bored me very much and I was so regreful that I almost wanted to give up.  At times the activity made me know what the Green Map is and green life.  Whenever the other friends talk with me about the green life things, I could say something more quickly than the others.  Then I will feel accomplished.  By the way, I had to type so many words everyday.  It really drove me crazy and I don’t want to try it any longer.

2008/1/27/Get Online, Being Green  (Ger Yen)

Contents:

This was the first time for me to plant a tree.  I was so excited.  My best friend Huang Jun-yen planted with me.  The most amazing thing was that we could took a shovel to dig the soil in the Elf Land.  I was wondering what strange things I was going to dig out.  We dug and dug again.  Eventually I planted a tree into the hole.  I even dug out some earthworms and a plastic bag.  All of a sudden I heard the girls screaming.  Guess what?  They dug out a worm.  I thought it was a Rhinoceros Beetle or Stag Beetle’s grub in the first place.  Actually it was a nameless worm.  It made my hands turn sticky.  Our teacher guessed that it was a dorbeetle’s grub.  I hope we can plant more trees then it will be helpful to our eyes.

I’m in the sixth grade, WunDe Primary School and I am by name Chen Wei-cheng.  I took part in the Cyber Fair because of bore, therefore I felt bored to draw up the report later on.  I felt dismayed at the thought of having attended this activity.  I regretted my decision   Although it’s tiring to type, I changed my thought after a while.  I could improve the ability of composition and increased the speed of thping.  That’s so-called to gain two advantages by one single move.  From time to time we were happy to go sightseeing.

Contents:
I planted the tree with Hsing-ru, Chi-yu and Ya-jun.  We pulled together to plant one plant.  I kept digging and digging until the hole got deeper and larger.  To our great surprise, we even dug out a nameless animal.  When we planted the tree, hopefully our tree could grow taller and taller, better and better.  We felt very happy.  The other friends around us planted the tree with great care, too.  Someone’s tree was quite strange, half red and half green.  I couldn’t figure out why.  When we put the tree into the hole and covered with dirt, it was so interesting.  We pressed the dirt and repressed it again and afterwards we left the place happily.

Contents:

I am Hsiu Ya-hang.  I am thin and tall and hot-tempered sometimes.  Usually I am not that “hot”.  I don’t like learning new things, but prefer freedom.

It’sfun to take part in the whole activity.  I was so happy to see so many interesting things.  Haha!  During the winter vacation we went to the Soceity of Wilderness and to participate the picturebooks making activity.  I had a very wonderful time, learned a lot of things and obtained much knowledge.  I enjoyed myself, so did every one of the others.  I was quite delighted to learn a lot during my winter vacation.

Contents:
I could feel the crying of the nature through this activity.  Over-developing the environment, people damaged our nature.  We should take good care of the nature.  By the way, it’s not easy to make a picturebook.  You can only accomplish it with complicated procedures.  Above all I learned to type because of drawing up the report.  You can’t type too fast at first.  I kept learning slowly and then faster and faster.  I hope the activity will last forever.  Isn’t it wonderful?
