Born in Ishikawa-Ken, Japan

 

Imachi Village, Kahoku, Okuriku, Ishikawa-Ken is the hometown o f Hachitayoichi. He was born in 1866, and is the youngest son in the Ha Ta family. The Ha Ta’s is a prominent clan locally with many lands.

 

Graduated from University of Tokyo, Ha Ta Yo I Shi worked at The Office of the Taiwan Governor General

 

After graduating from elementary school, Hachitayoichi entered the Ishikawa First Junior High School to study. Later, he passed the entrance exam and entered Fourth Senior High School. It is the only senior high school among the three kens in Okuriku. In 1907, he entered Dept. of Engineering, University of Tokyo and majored in Civil Engineering at the age of 21. In July, 1, Ha Ta graduated from University of Tokyo and arrived in Taiwan (a colony of Japan at the time) by ship. He worked at The Office of the Taiwan Governor General and stayed in Taiwan every since (longer than his stay in his birth place, Japan)

 

 

How did Taiwan become a colony of Japan

þIn 1894, the Sino-Japanese War broke out between China and Japan following internal conflicts in Korea. The following year, the two countries signed “Treaty of Shimonoseki”. In addition to compensating for the losses, and lifting the ban on trade, Taiwan was also ceded to Japan. Liaotung Peninsula was not ceded due to interventions from other countries. Nevertheless, Taiwan and Penghu became colonies of Japan for 50 years.
