▌He was in charge of the Chia-Nan Canal Construction
In 1919, the amended “Guantian River Reservoir/canal Project” earned the recognition of The Office of the Taiwan Governor General. On the same year, Hachitayoichi and over 80 technicians visited Chia-Nan Plain for survey conductions on the canal, reservoir, and irrigation area in March. The survey was finally completed after half a year. After a series of review conductions and assembly application filing, the canal engineering began in September, 1920. Hachitayoichi served as the monitor section head, and public works section head. In December, 1921, he served as Wushantou branch office head (part-time). Other than supervising the reservoir engineering, he was also the leader of the Wushantou dormitory where he stayed.

▌10 years in Wushantou
Since the reservoir engineering was a major task, the construction period was long. In order for the engineering staff to take care of their families, he built a family dormitory for the workers and their families. To provide comfort while staying in Wushantou, he also requested that an archery range, a swimming pool, a tennis court, a shopping center, a club, a school, and a hospital be built. In addition, there is movie showing every month that provide entertainment for engineering staff and their family members.

In May of 1930, a reservoir inauguration ceremony was held. Wushantou Engineering was officially completed. Hachitayoichi and his family had already stayed in Wushantou for 10 years. As early as January, the Office of the Taiwan Governor General ordered Hachitayoichi to return to The Office of the Taiwan Governor General after the canal was completed. At the time of parting, the workers organized Friendship Organization. This organization not only helped setup a stone tablet to commemorate the deceased at work, a statue was also awarded to chairman Hachitayoichi to thank him for his dedications and what he had done for the workers.
