Pay Love Forward:Mr. Fang’s Determinationn
As the borough chief recalled, Mr. Wang Guan-Ying was the only person who could ride a bike in front of the Taiwan Presidential Building during the period of martial law. It was because there was a flag on his bike saying, “Scavenging for Education.”
Eating moldy steamed buns and sleeping in flooded basements are the most impressive things Mr. Fang had seen when he was learning with Mr. Wang. The borough chief flashed back to his rough childhood. His mother passed away when he was only 15. His father tried to take care of the five kids in the family. The neighbors and the elders were all friendly and helped them to get through some very difficult times. After years of studying in other cities, he came back and saw the elders who had once helped him living alone without care. He was distressed.
According to the borough chief, even though Mr. Wang came from Mainland China to Taiwan alone and always wore baggy and shabby clothes, he could still carry out his dream. As a borough chief, he knew the doors to power and opportunities; therefore, there was no reason that he could not achieve his goal and make this community better again. Nanjichang might be a disadvantaged community, but people still have faith and passion. Mr. Fang decided to pass on Mr. Wang’s dream and love of bringing the community back to life.
