Gangshan Rice with Minced Pork Sauce
Gangshan rice with minced pork sauce is the most popular and famous food stand in Nanjichang. You can see people waiting in line and eating from morning to night. If you want to eat it, you must wake up early!
The minced pork on top of the rice tastes juicy. When you take a bite of the pork, the fat of the pork melts in your mouth. You will be surprised at how perfectly smooth it is, and you will not think it is greasy at all. The fish miso soup is another special. The chef stews fish with broth and adds some tofu in it. The fish becomes chewy and fresh. The savory soup is unforgettable. Nothing beats a bowl of hot, delicious soup on a cold winter morning.

Assorted Seafood Gnocchi
Chef Kang’s assorted seafood gnocchi is another popular food stand right in the middle of the Nanjichang Night Market. There is another food stand that sells seafood gnocchi at the night market; however, even though that food stand provides a better dining environment with air conditioner, people are still willing to wait for and eat Chef Kang’s gnocchi in a hot, cramped space.
The assorted seafood gnocchi is served with shrimp, octopus, and bonito soup. Who would not want begin his or her day with a bowl of chewy and filling seafood gnocchi? Aside from having gnocchi, Chef Kang’s stand also sells ramen noodles, Udon noodles, and rice noodles. Free Range Chicken Rice
Chicken rice is a famous dish in southern Taiwan, but we are lucky to be able to enjoy this dish in Nanjichang Night Market here in Taipei. Compared to the chicken rice in the south of Taiwan, the one in Nanjichang is more delicious because they use free range chickens. This means the chickens get enough exercise, so the meat tastes juicier and chewy.
Interestingly, the chef has quite a personality. The business hours of the food stand depends on whether he has had enough sleep. It usually opens at 11. However, it might open earlier at 10 if he cannot fall asleep. If he oversleeps, the food stand will open at 12. Even so, people still line up every day for the chicken rice because it is limited. The food stand closes whenever everything sells out.
