Five-way Wealth Gods

There are five wealth gods residing at the hall of wealth gods. They represent wealth gods in five directions (east, west, north, south, and center), and they bring blessing for wealth to followers. The wealth god in the middle is Zhao Gongming. Legend has it that Zhao used to be very poor, and he begged for life. He had a chicken that could not lay eggs and a dog that could not bark. One night, the sky lit up, and all the deities were heading towards heaven. It was the open gate of heaven, and it only occurred every three thousand years. Zhao pleaded to the gods to give him lots of wealth. The next day, his chicken started to lay eggs of gold, and whenever the dog barked, it would cough out a silver nugget. He shared his newfound wealth with the villagers. He asked workers to put gold foil on paper money for deities and silver foil on paper money for ghosts and ancestors. That is why there are gold and silver foils on different types of paper money. Since Zhao was a man of righteousness, so he was named god of wealth for businesses (Wu Caishen).
