Plans for Learning Hand-In-Hand

There are amazingly talents hidden in Yu-Tsai’s little Shuo-Chang experts club.Some have learned the art of Shuo-Chang for more than two years.Therefore, the topic for Cyberfair this year is going to be taking apprenticeship with our student Shuo-Chang expert teachers, and hopefully we would be able to pick up something they have learned.Our plan for learning requires our student Shuo-Chang expert teachers to devote their time during morning self-study sessions, lunch breaks, and after-school hours to teach us different genres of Shuo-Chang.

Searching for student Shuo-Chang expert teachers

Level of proficiency: more than two years of learning in the art of Shuo-Chang

Level of devotion: able to come and teach in the morning, noon, or after-school at least twice a week

Level of coaching: must be patient and willing to teach senior students, who are inexperienced in Shuo-Chang, with perseverance

Level of proficiency + dedication + coaching = seven qualified student Shuo-Chang expert teachers

After selecting seven teachers, we started our apprenticeship according to each teacher’s area of expertise and coaching hours.

Introduction to the art of Shuo-Chang

Fundamentals of Shuo-Chang – practice and learn tones through tongue-twisters, storytelling with bamboo clappers, and crosstalk comedy

Tempo training – first practice with simple clappers to learn the tempo for Shuo-Chang

Two-Hand-coordination training – Use ‘Da Guo Men’ to train for the use of three-piece bamboo clappers

Market doggerel group – compose a doggerel; learn about tempo and intonation

Yonghe-Zhonghe street performing group – compile a topic for learning; learn about tempo and intonation
