Fly Bravely

 

“Look, Auntie.  I am no that dark now.”  Some day in the summer this year, A-Long shows up at the door of Wu’s family to give a super surprise to Daddy Wu and Mommy Wu.

Such group of children, who have been taken care by Daddy Wu and Mommy Wu, have their own life now and bravely face the future and strive to paint a beautiful picture of their life.

Foreign foster organizations and family support centers keep a close contact with us and pay attention to Xiao Wei and his photos sent from oversea by Xiao Wei’s new daddy and mommy from time to time, and Xiao Wei’s happy smiling face always shows up in his photos of having a joyful trip, swinging a baseball bat, and dining with family.  Mommy Wu provides the details of the photos and she is very glad to tell us about Xiao Wei’s life after leaving the foster family and estimate Xiao Wei’s current height and weight.  She is very happy for his growth and development aboard.

 Mommy Wu always worries about A-wen to become a bad child.  Sometimes, a change takes time.  Perhaps, efforts may not have an immediate effect, but “A-wen becomes more sensible and just came to see us a few days ago.  Now, he is a high school student of grade twelve and becomes more polite and actively helps housekeeping and no longer steals things anymore”.  Mommy Wu is unable to hide her proud smile while saying so.

After 18 years of age, A-Long lives independently but still treats the foster family as his own home, and fills Mommy Wu’s address in the blank of address column, and sends parcels and even report card to the address of the foster family.  Now, the grown-up A-Long goes to a university in southern Taiwan.  For festivals, A-Long always gives red envelop to Daddy Wu and Mommy Wu.  In Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or any School Bazaar, A-Long will buy and send gifts to Mommy Wu.  A-Long always come back to find Mommy Wu whenever there is a chance to go to Changhua.  With the support of Mommy Wu, the grown-up A-Long uses his own force to give us surprises and concerns others with loving care. 

Daddy Wu and Mommy Wu are willing to give up their sleep and talk with the kids the whole night through.  Daddy Wu and Mommy Wu plan trips and join the parent meetings to support and encourage the kids.  The mind of Daddy Wu and Mommy Wu is to relieve the kids’ innermost thoughts and turn over the kid’s fate.  They are not family members, but still can give warmth to the family.

In fact, turning over a tragedy is simple and not as difficult as we can imagine.  The difficulty resides on the profound reasons hidden behind the surface of the problem; and the simplicity resides on that everyone like Daddy Wu and Mommy Wu can make changes by contribution.
