How to apply for foster family
Every few years Taiwan Fond for Children and Families (TCFC) recruits new foster families. The applicants’ age should be between 25 and 55. Their education levels should be equal to or above Junior high; plus, they should be married at least for two years. Application process is quite lengthy. At first the center would ask you to apply for it, and to go to police station to request a document for prove of good citizen (There should not be any member of family convicted of crimes). After these steps, in order to save resources, the center would first conduct an inspection for family environment. Passing that, the applicants would be notified for training. It takes about 3 months to prepare them for the tasks. The classes include psychology, child care, handling simulated scenarios, et. cetera.
After being accepted as a foster family, the foster parents need to continue education to better serve the children from different background. Mommy Wu said, “After we became foster parents, the center would ask us to take 30 hour classes, and keep communicating with us about ideas and concepts. If some problems occurred, we can always ask the center for help.”
