The opportunities
“Join me to volunteer for the Taiwan Fund for children and Families(TFCF)! You like children; they will touch your heart,” Daddy Wu encouraged. “But what do we have to offer these children?”Mommy Wu hesitated. The reason for the Wus to being foster parents was due to good karma.
Aside being a fireman, Daddy Wu was also volunteering for all kinds of activities for community service. Starting from 1991, he volunteered in a Family Assistance Center. He enthusiastically brought Mommy Wu along with him. |

The services provided for the families were comprehensive- for single parent, disadvantaged children… Through those volunteer work, the motherly love gradually grew in Mommy Wu. She felt that these children were very cute and innocent,though not carefully nurtured. Yet,given the right environment, they would certainly thrive someday. |

The center was promoting, recruiting foster family for these underprivileged children, and providing needed training as well.Mommy Wu thought, “Maybe we can become foster parents, and help these children whose parents are not capable of taking care of them.” |
If only they could. First of all, they had three young ones of their own; there wasn’t enough energy left to do more.“We wanted to become foster parents a long while ago, but we lived in an old, two-story house. It was quite cramped for space. there wasn’t room enough for more. We were thinking about buying a bigger house for accommodation of foster children,” the Wus added. |

| Therefore, for the time being, they did what they could: participating in the activities in the center, helping, and caring for these socially deprived children. But the idea of becoming foster parents never went away; the thought had taken root in their heart. |  |
