The travail and triumph of life
“I just wanted to make clothing for my children later on when I learned to sew. I didn’t expect that I could make extra money with it,”
Mommy Wu joyfully added. After the marriage, Life wasn’t as happy as they anticipated. They went through a lot of hardships. However difficult it was, to them, they firmly believed that these will eventually past.
As soon as Daddy Wu got out of the army and Mommy Wu graduated from High school, they got married. The newly-weds were living with in-laws on the countryside at first. When the first child arrived, Mommy Wu was working in a factory in Beigang, Yunlin , and Daddy Wu was working as a plumber. They were delighted as new parents. |
Daddy Wu was in a police academy for over ten months as part time student, but after the second child was born, he figured he needed a steady income to support the growing family. He decided to become a fireman. For that position, one needs to pass an entrance exam. He sat many times for this exam, and failed. But he never gave up. |
Mommy Wu had to give up her factory job to become a full-time stay-home-mom. It was easy for her; it was her vocation and calling. To help out the tight budget, she took on a side-job as seamstress, working when the children were asleep. |
The family Wu lived in Taipei for a while, but Taipei City was not an ideal place to live in. The pollution, the noise, and the crowdedness all added to their decision to move back to their back-home, Yunlin. After countless endeavors Daddy Wu finally passed the exam. He quit his plumbing job right away, and after several moves, they settled down in Homei, Chunghua. |
