Applicant’s qualification for foster family

These are the basic qualifications for foster parents. After applying, the candidates must pass the assessment provided by the family assistance center, and undergo training. Upon receiving the certificate from Chunghua county government, they can officially become foster family.

For the care of middle school age or older children, an individual bed- room is preferable.
Single Parent	Age between 25 and 65, Junior high school level or above	Single; capable of taking care of children	Good character; no contagious disease, (prove of good conduct for any household members who is at least 20 years old)	Steady income for upkeep of household (prove of income and asset needed)	Safe, clean, not crowded. For the care of middle school age or older children, an individual bed- room is preferable
Career foster parents	Age between 25 and 50; high school level or above; at least two years of experience at day care center or children’s placement facilities; having a degree in social work or related field, at least two years of working experience.

Note: other county or city might have its own age requirements; applicants for foster family must go through a physical examination and obtain a certificate of good health from a public hospital. They need to bring a copy household registration for application. After being accepted by the committee, they can start the 40 hour-training program- 28 hours for individual and 12 hours for group sessions. The training sessions are held mostly on weekends. It lasts 8 to9 h ours per session.
