1. Shī kiánn bô-lūn pn̄g, tshī pē-bú sǹg tǹg (飼囝無論飯, 飼父母算頓): being unfilial.
Meaning: People who take care of their own children carefully, but are unfilial to their parents.
2. Hue ziah lo zùi,hĭ ziah liū sùi,lăng ziah cùi sùi (花食露水, 魚食溪水, 人食喙水): cùi sùi means flattering.
Meaning: “cùi sùi” means flattering. People who can flatter others can survive in the competitive society.
3. Gau lau a tiám-sim cia (九樓的點心車): shifting responsibility and making excuses.

4. Tshit-gue̍h-puànn ah-á, m̄ tsai sí-ua̍h (七月半鴨仔): acting recklessly.
Meaning: In the mid- seventh month of the lunar calendar, ducks will be sacrificed for worshipping ghosts. Some sucks have no idea that they are going to be slaughtered and are still fighting for food. This slang means that a person acts recklessly and is unaware of danger.
5. Tiū-tsháu-lâng kiù-hué (稻草人救火): being unable even to fend for oneself. Meaning: being hardly able to save oneself. A person who is unable to save himself/herself from a disaster.
6. Huê-siūnn giâ hōo-suànn (和尚夯雨傘): being lawless and godless .
Meaning: a monk who holds an umbrella.
7. Hué-sio nā dău (火燒林投): being determined.
Meaning: Thatch Screwpine is a drought-resistant plan. If it is caught by fire, it can germinate from trunk and keep surviving. This slang means that one never gives up and keeps fighting for his/her determination.
8. Kuainn-mn̂g tio̍h tshuànn, kóng-uē tio̍h khuànn (關門要閂 講話要看): being careful to speak.
Meaning: A door should be locked once it is closed, and a person should watch out to whom he/she is speaking to. This slang means that people should be careful to speak.
9. Wò lán zǎi jiǎ shāo jīn (捾籃仔假燒金): hypocrisy.
Meaning: A person who holds a basket of sacrifice even though he/she does not intend to worship God. This slang means that a person who is a hypocrite.
