Sister You came to Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped (IHCMH) with the arrangement Sisters of Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped in Korea. In Taiwan, she had to learn a new language and ethnic customs. We are touched by her dedication.

◣1. How long have you come to Taiwan?

I have been here for 18 years.

◣2.When did you decide to be a sister?

I decided to be a sister when I was 22 years old.

◣3. Did your parents agree with your decision?

Of course not, they didn't agree with me at the very beginning.But they are also Catholic. Finally they accepted it.

◣4. Did you learn Chinese in Korea?

No, I learned Chinese after I came to Taiwan. I learned Chinese from Bo-po-mo(ㄅㄆㄇ).I learned Chinese step by step .All the volunteers and some students were my teachers. I also learned some Taiwanese from the Center students who were with normal language ability and go to college now.

◣5. How did you overcome the language barriers?

Through a lot of practice,and a lot of chances to talk with others, I speak fluent Chinese now.

◣6.What else agencies or organizations did you serve before?

I served in a similar institution like IHCMH in Korea.

◣7. Then,what is your approach to manage IHCMH?

I prefer to say I am guided by the God. We read the Bible every day. We follow the Bible to do everything.

◣8. How do you get the fund for the construction of a new building?

In addition to the land and money donated by some nice and generous people,we also raised money by selling Korean Kimchi. Taiwanese people like to eat Kimchi in winter.

◣9. Have your friends ever been volunteers here?

Of course . They have been volunteers here! They want to know what I am doing. They probably want to be one of my wings.

◣10. What do you expect for the future of Immaculate Heart Center for Mentally Handicapped?

We will provide more care for the disabled. Then we will have a control center in north Changhua County. We will offer more service to the persons who need help.

◣11. Have you ever met any difficulties here?

Yes. Sometimes I have trouble at work or about interpersonal relationship.When I have trouble, I always read Bible. Then the trouble will disappear.

◣12. What is that made you feel happy here?

One of my students ,who I taught when he was a child, goes to college now. I feel so happy.

When I first met Sister You, I didn't know that she was from Korea. We thought she was a Taiwanese like us because she spoke Chinese so well. Later, my teacher told us Sister You was from South Korea. We were so surprised. Sister You has been in Taiwan for eighteen years. She is so kind and full of friendliness like many Taiwanese. Behind her peaceful smile, she must have undergone many stringent ordeal . We are touched by her spirit deeply.
