PDA Phone
HTC foresaw the market of PDA Phones long before they put effort in researching and developing.
In the year of 1998, the market of cellphone was still in the era of 2G. At that time, the current vice president of research and development of HTC was Mr. Chou, who just had finished the 3GSM (the Mobile World Congress) in Cannes, France. He then started to try to combine PDA, which was not well internet-accessible, with cellphone, which was in poor data processing.
The idea of PDA Phone caught the attention of the British telecommunications company, O2, and won a contrast of joint development.
The development of the PDA Phones gave HTC an opportunity to capture the latest technology such as mobile communication and internet access. HTC sent its testing team to Europe and America to test again and again to try to make it work perfectly, to improve the function and the telecommunication system. Finally, in October, 2002, the first PDA Phone, model No. XDA, equipped with Microsoft operating system (Window CE) made its debut. It shocked the cellphone market. Bill Gates recommended it in U.S. Consumer Electronics Show, and the British largest mobile magazine showcased it on the cover and named it as “the King of Handheld”.
The development of PDA Phones has once again shown the unique vision and creativity of HTC.
