Background

How did your activities and research for this international schools cyberfair project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Through the process of researching our topic, we learned to choose a research topic, develop a research program, implement research, and complete the whole research process. During the process, we also unknowingly used all of the things we had learned in each of our subjects at school. Our research used the seven areas of the curriculum and that formed the main structure for our design. We hope that through our research we can put our 9 years of schooling to good use!

Language

We had to design surveys and interviews, collect data, and write up progress reports. These all improved our writing ability. Through the process of actual interviews, debates, charity sales, and surveys, we were also able to improve our speaking and listening skills. So in all we improved each of the four main areas of language – listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Math

We used graphs to display data that we had collected from staff and students of our school to find out how much they knew about the bookstore. We also used a spreadsheet program to collate data about each event and team members' contributions.

Social Studies

Using "Small Small Bookshop" as an example, we wanted to promote reading in our school and community. We did so by holding a second-hand book sale, and with our big brother/sister storytelling events.

Art and Humanities

We used our art skills to make ID badges, invitation cards, sandwich boards, posters and a lot more. We also used video and animation when designing the website.

Science and Technology

We used digital cameras, video cameras, cell phones to record things. Then we used computers and projectors to share things with our classmates and promote the bookstore. Finally we used a web design software to create the website.

Mixed Activities

We organized many activities in the community and at school. In particular the second-hand book sale. This was a great chance for students to get involved in helping people and encourage them to love books more.
