What is Rhythm

What is rhythm? It’s not only music or movement but also something else.

Beside music or dance, rhythm actually exists in our daily life. Most of the routine work has its own rhythm. For example, “left, right, left, right” is the basic rhythm or walking. It is also a kind of rhythm that we get up, eat, go to work, sleep, and then get up day after day. Moreover, we can even rhythm in the nature like the ties of the sea and the change of the seasons.

The word rhythm comes from “rhythmos” in Greek, which means movement, measurement, and balance. In general, it is the sequence of time; while in music, it is the sequence of audio phenomenon and presented by melodies, tempos and beats.
