2.Description of "Our Community" :

Taipei City Xisong Elementary School is located in Songshan District of Taipei City. It has been established for over 70 years, and is a classic urban school in Taipei. We currently have 54 regular classes, 2 resource classes, and 7 kindergarten classes, for a total of 63 classes with about 1300 students in the whole school. Xisong Elementary School rhythm band was established in 1992. With the careful guidance of the advising teachers and the full cooperation of parents, the rhythm band has performed very well, receiving positive acclaim from various sources.

3. Summary of Our Project:

The topic of our project is “rhythm band,” in which we personally experienced various types of instruments, looking up information about rhythm bands, and used interviews, records, questionnaire surveys to understand rhythm bands; we learned the instruments and wrote our reflections, and collected the photos and files on previous rhythm band performances and competitions, writing them into reports.

We found out about the performance methods for various instruments, and understood that it was not easy to learn instruments! It is even more difficult to combine different instruments into a band! In the performance process, each student in the rhythm band had to be very focused, or they will play the wrong note!

W After we heard the rhythm band practice a whole Christmas song, we were all very moved, ad thought they played very well! It was very different from listening to television or speaker music, and we enjoyed the direct personal experiences! We believe that the rhythm band can certainly give their best performance in the national competition!

4. Our Computers and Internet Access:

Our school has three computer classrooms, and the one we used had a Dell computer from four years ago. The school’s internet connects via fiber optic networks to the Hualien County Educational Network Center, then to the Taiwan Academic Network. We usually used lunch time to compile and organize information in the computer classroom.

5. Problems We Had To Overcome: 1. Creation of the theme:

When designing the questionnaire and the interview questions, at first everyone thought of ten questions and referred to past Cyberfair project questions, but there were repetitions, so everyone had to summarize them together and it took a long time.

2. Taking more time to organize the data

Sometimes there is too much data that has be looked through one by one and the wrong ones have to be deleted; these things require a lot of patient help from everyone. After interviewing the teachers and principal, the recordings have to be transcribed. Since we typed very slowly, sometimes the teachers talked a lot, and we have to listen to it over and over again, taking a long time.

3.Interview skill is not good

3. At first when we interviewed the principal and the teachers, we were scared of asking questions, but later we got used to it, and this made us excited again. When we interviewed the rhythm band teacher, we became more confident, and we were also not afraid when asking other rhythm band teachers over the years.

4. Difficulties in recording

When typing reflections or recording issues, sometimes the writing for the records is too ugly making us unable to type the reflections. Now we have to look at the focus records, and think about it again before writing, and avoid the same problems.

5. Falling behind

Sometimes maybe the current work is not complete, and the teacher has more assignments. Because of time crunch, before the work was done we had to conduct interviews, or even using our own time tom make up the progress. But if everyone is willing to work well, the work would definitely be complete. Sometimes, for morning self-study or lunch break meeting times, some people can’t come or come late, this would cause us to fall behind.

6. Time management

Some people also participated in the school’s public service teams like the traffic control team, so we need to quickly finish our own work in order to prevent problems to time management.

6. Afterthoughts:

After this Cyberfair project, we learned how to establish the project content and learned techniques for communicating with people. With a treasure-hunt spirit, we often gain a lot of unexpected knowledge and surprise, and we’ve helped ourselves grow a lot! More importantly, we understand the power of team work, which can help us pass through various difficulties. We deeply understand the meaning of “power in cooperation.” When everyone works together to combine their energy, we could definitely complete our research on Rhythm Band.S
