How many years have you served at Chutang Township Farmers Association?

A: I have been working for 16, 17 years at Changhua County Chutang Township Farmers Association.

What is your current work title?

A: I am a farming instructor right now.

What are farming instructors mainly in charge of?

A: Everything concerning farming, mortgages and subsidies, as well as technical advice are my responsibility.

What is the relationship between Yeedon San-Hao Rice Enterprise and Chutang Township Farmers Association?

A: Yeedon San-Hao Rice Enterprise is the largest operating rice company in the country, with retail locations all over the island; Chutang Township Farmers Association concentrates on advising the farmers on contracting and technical matters. Yeedon Enterprise often purchases contracted superior products produced by farmers that have received counsel from the farmers association.

In what ways does the farmers association provide technical assistance to farmers?

A: There are many Agricultural Research & Extension Stations all around the country. Chutang Farmers Association works in collaboration with Taichung Agricultural R&E Station to provide technical advice and long-term educational seminars for local farmers. We advise them on how to improve the quality and quantity of their farm yields by using fertilizers and pesticides correctly and safely.

How did you come up with the name for Taigeng No. 9 Premium Rice?

A: I mentioned that there are many Agricultural Research and Extension Stations around the country, and that’s usually where rice varieties are bred, at regional stations. After local contracted farmers successfully grow the new hybrids, the hybrids are then widely promoted for popular cultivation. Taigeng No. 9 Premium Rice is a superior quality rice developed by Taichung Agricultural Research & Extension Station.

In which year was Taigeng No. 9 Premium Rice honored with the “National Superior Quality Award?”

A: Chutang Township Farmers Association began to encourage and assist farmers in attending the competition in 2004, and due to their efforts in promotion and marketing, the rice of this region has won awards almost every year. It could be said that Taigeng No. 9 Premium Rice is the best and most representative product that is endorsed by Changhua County Chutang Township Farmers Association.

What is the difference between Taigeng No. 9 Premium Rice and rice with cultivation résumés?

A: All of the rice products that are grown with counseling from the Farmers Association have cultivation résumés, and are therefore called resuméd rice. Taigeng No. 9 Premium Rice is not only a resuméd rice, but also a top prize winner at national contests held by the Council of Agriculture and a certified TAF product, so that consumers may enjoy it in peace and safety.

Why is it that the rice produced in the Changhua County Chutang Township region are often winners in rice competitions?

A: the rice fields of this region are irrigated by Chuoshui River, the clearness and sweetness of the water, the fertile earth, and the rich sediments brought by the river make the surrounding areas perfect for rice cultivation. Furthermore, farmers become better skilled and grow more knowledgeable every year by continuing to receive training and gaining experience in farming. This is why the region produces so many award winning rice varieties.
