Origin of the Port Tea
When the first year of the reign of Qing Emperor Guangxu, Hengchun became a county and the first county magistrate Yu-Chi Chou comes from Fujian. He loves to drink tea but the traffic of Hengchun was not convenient so it’s not easy to get tea leaves from north central area. Thus he ask people to seek tea leaves everywhere and see if there some people do the tea planting. Finally, he found tea leaves that Jen-Juen Ju planted and taste like the flavor of his hometown after he drank the tea.
在光緒一年，恆春設縣，首任縣老爺周有基來自福建，這位縣老爺愛喝茶，可是，恆春地處偏僻，交通不便，不易從中北部獲得茶葉，於是，派人四處尋覓，看附近是否有人種茶？結果，找到朱振准種的港口茶，經周老爺試飲後，覺得它甘美無比，可比福建家鄉茶的特色。
Because Jen-Juen Ju’s tea garden is small, the county magistrate is generous to give lands as wide as he wants. But Jen-Juen Ju is honest to ask five units of ground and planted bamboo as fence. In this way, the Port tea garden circled by bamboo forest and therefore it was passed down by generations.
