Mankind has relied on water supply for drinking, washing and irrigating since ancient times; therefore, human life and cultural development are both related to “water”.

HePing River locates in the north river in Hualien County in Taiwan. The ancestors of the aboriginal people, Taroko Tribe, have lived here by the waters, inherited the blood and built their homes.

The story of the “River Expedition” is that caring about the changes of the river in a group of Taroko children’s living environment motivated them to do the research on HePing River. Through field trips, interviewing, discovering, solving problems and providing new ideas, the children understand the property of HePing River and experience the current situation of it; thus, they can be closer to the environment of their hometown. They also witness the environmental problems of HePing River and the influences of the villagers, which encourage them to find the sense of identity and affection for their hometown.
