Mr. Jiang JianChen

  • Interviewee: Village Head, Mr. Jiang JianCheng
  • Date: Oct. 6th, 2010
  • Place: At the village head’s place

 1. What’s you impression of HePing River? Please describe.

Mr. Jiang:

a. When I was a kid, the water in the river was very clear, and there was a lot of fish in there, such as Taiwan Ku fish and mitten crabs.  I used to go hiking there.  Once, a child drowned in the river and died.

b. Ever since the factories were built along the river, the water became very turbid.  Thus, my impression of it was bad.   Mitten crabs and shrimps have decreased.  I no longer go fishing under the bridge, but I still go up along the river to fish.  Because of the river protection, watermelons are now prohibited to grow.  However, we used to grow watermelons decades ago in the 1970s and 80s.

2. When was the last time you went to HePing River? with whom? and did what?

Mr. Jiang: Because the water in the river is turbid in the entire year, I rarely go there.

3. The HePing River You Know (How much do you know about BiHai Construction of TaiPower?)

Mr. Jiang: Over 20 kilometers of BiHai Construction in length is not allowed to be open to the public; the public can only visit in the office area, but not in their construction site.  There are two to three tribes there; quite a few people live there.

4. What do you think is the impact of HePing River to the residences in the community?

Mr. Jiang: There used to be the tribe of the village head in HePing River area with 40-minute walk.  When typhoons come, we can only take the mountain road.  There is natural hot spring in Northern HePing River with one and a half day walking which is about the same consuming time to go southern river hot spring, uet arriving BiHai Construction site.

5. What is your expectation to future HePing River?

Mr. Jiang: I hope it will change a lot with beautiful mountains and waters.
