Multiple Tests – Natural and Man-made Disasters

Lost master pieces in the early age.

“This was it, I liked it so much!” When Uncle Huang said that, we were not difficult to find his helplessness and regret from the expression.

In the same time of saying these, Uncle Huang was pointing at a picture which took about one year ago. It was an artwork that looked like a soaring eagle made by driftwood. The highest quality of shape made the masterpiece quite vivid. As soon as interview team saw the picture, we were impressive of the work and immediately loved it. No wonder Uncle Huang felt with a pity when he recalled the scene.

When Er-Kong Tree House was built at the early stage, people came and went and did not completely understand the spirit and significance of the Tree House establishment, therefore the artworks demonstrated in the open style Tree House were vanished all the time. It was clear that the masterpiece was very important for the Tree House since it was hung on the top side of the entrance. Until now, lost the artwork was still a great disappointment for Uncle Huang.

However, the interview team member also encouraged Uncle Huang to think it different way. Perhaps when you saw creations of now after several years later, you will think that was good. “Yes, I found the collections were more and more diverse. It was true that it came quickly than it went”, said Uncle Huang smilingly.

Tests from God.

The issue, which every open area needed to face, would need to see the decision of God.In the interview period, the team member always heard from Uncle Huang inquired the member the view that “Did you think it will rain today?”The Er-Kong Tree House needed to face another big challenge which was about weather. It was located at an intersection of roads. In front of the house, it was a 15 meters width of intersection corner; therefore the peripheral of the house was a wide land.

As we know the buildings in Servicemen Residential Compounds were mostly low story houses. Obviously when the weather went bad with strong wind or heavy rain, the highest object—Tree House certainly needed to withstand the fierce nature test. Under torrential rain and strong wind, even trees with deep root could not survive, much less the Tree House and the decorations all around.

“These were the small questions. I hoped everybody taking care of this place together…”. Uncle Huang did not care about the tests from nature since the Tree House was originally nature related. The most precious was the spirit to return to nature. Everyone maintained the Tree House together was what Uncle Huang happily to see.

Identification with the community.

It had been three years from the Tree House was built. In the interview duration, we found that many community residents came here to reorganize the environment, and they also provided ideas and comment to Uncle Huang. Such scene made us feel that the Tree House had been accepted by most of community residents gradually.

One person’s power was limited. It was impossible for Uncle Huang to guard the Tree House for 24 hours everyday. Some residents would come to help Uncle Huang watering the flowers. People came for playing chess would introduce the collections and offer tour suggestion to strangers. Sometimes, the neighbors would supply material for Uncle Huang’s creation so that he had more channels for collections and more space to create.

For such situation, we realized that the Er-Kong Tree House presented not only Uncle Huang’s dream, it presented the cohesion of all Er-Kong community.
