Recycling the Furtinure
To recycle the discarded furniture to be the secondhand furniture was the best example of being gold from garbage.

Taipei City Government has recycled and repaired discarded furniture since 2003. The furniture repaired center, established by TDEP, sold people the secondhand furniture with low price after repairing them. There were two secondhand furniture exhibitions of Zhongshan and Neihu originally. We could visit them on Tuesday and Thursday, and the exhibitions would sell the furniture by auction on Saturday and Sunday. Now the Zhongshan exhibition was closed, so we visited Neihu secondhand furniture exhibition.

Old Furniture and New Life

The furniture which was usually discarded by the citizens was tables, chairs, and cupboards. First, the worker would disinfect the furniture, and then repair it. Take an example for instance, if the table had cavities on the tabletop, the worker would change a new top and paint it. The repaired table would be like a new one.

Mr. Lou, who received us, said that the secondhand furniture which citizens often purchased was chairs, cupboards, and desks. The annual earnings were about 800,000 NTD. It was the best example to explain the situation of “Garbage being Gold”.

The second-hand furniture which fixed by TDEP, such as cabinets, tables, chairs, sofa and bicycles were auctioned in the first floor exhibition in Neihu. In the second floor, there were 158 articles of recycling furniture, including 80 articles of recycling antique furniture and 78 articles of recycling creative furniture. The citizen could visit the exhibition or browse through the Internet.

The Recycling Furniture is Hot now!

Because of the economic recession, the recycling furniture is hot now! According to a report in the newspaper, some hot articles often attracted the citizens to bid. For example, a secondhand of Giant Bike, which was marked the price of 500 NTD, sold with the price of 2,100 NTD.

The salesman in the auction said that the most popular commodities were beds, sofa, closets, bureaus and bicycles. The tenants, landlords, or the owners of cram schools would come to the auction to find the suitable furniture. Some clergies even came here to buy altars!
